Do not arrest Capt, wife till July 30: HC
High Court Correspondent

Chandigarh, April 5
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today stayed with immediate effect the arrest of former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in the alleged Ludhiana City Centre scam. Since Amarinderís wife Preneet Kaur, Lok Sabha member from Patiala constituency, was also a petitioner in the matter, Justice Ranjit Singh Randhawa also restrained the government and the police from arresting her till July 30. The court also issued notices to the respondents for the same date.

It also directed the Union government and the authorities at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, not to arrest Amarinder when he returns to India.

An order to this effect was passed by the Judge after preliminary hearing on the petition filed jointly by Capt Amarinder Singh and his wife, seeking directions to the respondents not to arrest the Captain on his arrival back from London later this month.

Amarinder and 18 others, including former minister Choudhary Jagjit Singh, were recently booked by the Vigilance Bureau for their role in the alleged Ludhiana City Centre scam.

In his petition, Amarinder had stated that he had already informed the government of his desire to join the investigation and was ready to cooperate in any investigation and therefore he should not be arrested either at the airport or outside for 10 days.

Amarinder had also stated that since the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has issued an Interpol look-out notice against him, he apprehended that he would be arrested on his arrival back to the country. This, he has added, would serve no purpose as he was ready to join the investigations and face further proceedings, if any, on his own.
