The corridors of power were powerless throughout the day owing to a daylong power cut in the mini secretariat much to the harassment of the as their works could not be taken up and most of the officials remained away from their seats.

Labourer succumbs to poisoned curry

The migrant labourer who had been admitted to a local private hospital in an unconscious condition after reportedly consuming curry prepared from insecticide-sprinkled tomatoes from fields of a farmer at Rachhin village near here a week ago, breathed his last today.

PSSF demands action against attack on member
Amloh, April 26
lnderjit Singh Bhagrana, who succumbed to his injuries at the Sector 32 Hospital, Chandigarh, after being severely injured in an attack by miscreants, was remembered at a meeting of  Punjab Subordinate Services Federation (PSSF). The meeting was held  here today under the  presidentship of PSSF, state vice president,  Balbir Singh Ghuman.  The PSSF has also demanded action against alleged attackers.

Sarabha ladies hold function
Ludhiana April 26
An inter-club dance competition was held to mark the annual day celebrations of the Sarabha Ladies Club today. The members were draped in colourful saris, which was the dress code. Members from more than six ladies’ clubs participated in several items.

Avian influenza can turn pandemic: Chaudhary
Ludhiana, April 26
The president of the Veterinary Council of India, A.L. Chaudhary today warned that the avian influenza (bird flue) could turn into a pandemic calamity if preventive measures were not taken. He said, although there was no threat as of now, but a long term policy needs to be adopted against this disease in the country. Talking to The Tribune during the twenty fourth annual conference of Indian Poultry Science Association, Chaudhary pointed out that the poultry industry has lost billions of rupees due to the mild infections only.
