Woman colleague complainant
Two councillors held for intimidation

Mohali, May 1
Senior vice-president of the municipal council Rishiv Jain and another councillor Gurmeet Singh Walia were arrested by the police on charges of using force with the intent of outraging a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint. They were later freed on bail.

Chandigarh, May 1
Last night at 11 p.m., a spark in a coil of live wires running through a building in a Sector 22 house resulted in a major fire which destroyed belongings in a room, including important official documents, belonging to Additional Director D.K.Guptain with the directorate of technical education, Haryana.

62 liquor vends sealed

Chandigarh, May 1
The UT excise department today sealed at least 62 vends across the city. Of the total 208 vends allotted so far under the new excise policy, 66 vends are in make-shift structures. The vends were sealed as the allottees failed to convert the make-shift structures into pre-fabricated structures christened as ‘Taverns’. The deadline for raising the pre-fabricated structures was April 30.

Even as the matter was reported to the police yesterday, which had no knowledge of the alleged crime, cops let the victim go without investigating his allegations.

A 25-year-old married woman allegedly suffered burns yesterday morning at her Ram Darbar residence while cooking meals. He sustained 20 per cent burns in the incident, said the police.

Husband’s aunt sets woman on fire
Chandigarh, May 1
Pardeepa, an 18-year-old married woman, was allegedly set afire by her husband’s aunt for dowry at her Dhanas residence last night. The victim was admitted to the Sector 16 General Hospital with 35 per cent burns, said the police.

Car crushes 5-year-old child, driver held
Chandigarh, May 1
Kartik, a 5-year-old child, lost his life after being hit by a speeding car on the road dividing Sectors 52 and 53 this morning. He was rushed to the Sector 16 hospital in a critical condition, where the doctors declared him brought dead, said the police.

With the arrest of four persons, the police today claimed to have solved six cases of thefts. The police said three motor cycles, three LPG cylinders and six mobile phones had been recovered from the accused.
