BATHINDA Three arrested: Three persons were arrested with 140 packets of spurious cottonseeds on Monday. Civil Lines police post in-charge Gurpreet Singh said the seeds were being taken from Bathinda to Abohar. The accused were identified as Gurbax Singh, a local resident, Ravi Kumar, a resident of Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan, and Jagdish Kumar. He was arrested from his house at Bharat Nagar. A case under Section 420 ,IPC, Section 7, EC Act, and the Seed Control Act had been registered against them. BARETA
(Mansa) Hoshiarpur Wheat procured: As many as 1,25,961 tonnes of wheat has been purchased in 59 procurement centres in Hoshiarpur district up to May 6, said deputy commissioner D.K. Tiwari at a meeting here on Monday. He said that payment of Rs 9 crore, which came to 95 per cent of the total procurement, had been made. Nearly 98 per cent of the total procurement had been made from the centres and sent to godowns. Akhand paths: Terming Sikh religion as an independent religion, chief of Damdami Taksal Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa said Sikhism did not relate to any religion of the world and RSS had no right to make remarks against or in favour of any religion and to create any unnecessary controversy. Khalsa was addressing a gathering on the inauguration of series of 155 akhand paths being organised by Brahm Parkash Singh, an NRI from Canada, at Dohlran village in Mahilpur, about 30 km from here. The NGO collected donations from NRIs for extending help to students of Guru Nanak Mission Public Senior Secondary School, Dhahan Kaleran. Financial assistance amounting to Rs 85,500 was distributed among 37 students and their parents for helping them to continue their studies.
