Two nabbed: The police here nabbed two residents of Haripura village on Thursday evening when they were trying to escape after ransacking a medicine shop at Dharam Nagri on the outskirts of this subdivisional town. Sources said more than six persons, some of them carrying arms, ransacked a chemist shop run by Jaipal and his brother Tek Chand Sokhal and started beating them.They decamped after removing cash from the counter.Some policemen chased the culprits and nabbed two of them. The Sidhwan Bet police in two separate incidents, has arrested two persons with illicit liquor and booked them under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act.Gurmail Singh of Gagg Kalan was arrested in Kot Umra village. 6180 ml of illicit liquor was seized from his possession. Whereas, in the other incident, Kala Singh of the same village was arrested from Bhundri village with 6930 ml of illicit liquor2 held with poppy husk
Kewal Singh, alias, Bhola of Naragwal Kalan and Ranjit Singh, alias, Najju of Sobhivas, were arrested by the Dehlon police from Kila Raipur while they were carrying poppy husk on their scooter. The Raikot police of Kasba Raikot village has arrested Kamal Kumar, alias, Sonu of Barnala . The police recovered Rs 3,500 from his possession.The police also recovered number slips. Man attempts suicide: A former employee of the Pepsi Foods Limited at Channo village, near Bhawanigarh, Baljinder Singh, on Saturday tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on himself in front of the factory. Superintendent of police (headquarters) Dharam Singh told The Tribune over the phone that Baljinder had been removed from service three-four years ago.
