Two nabbed
: The police here nabbed two residents of Haripura village on Thursday evening when they were trying to escape after ransacking a medicine shop at Dharam Nagri on the outskirts of this subdivisional town. Sources said more than six persons, some of them carrying arms, ransacked a chemist shop run by Jaipal and his brother Tek Chand Sokhal and started beating them.They decamped after removing cash from the counter.Some policemen chased the culprits and nabbed two of them. They were being questioned.

Appointed
: Randhir Singh Dhir was appointed chairman of the district SC/ST Cell at a function held at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday.Speaking on the occasion, Balbir Singh Bubbi, president, Punjab unit of the SC/ST Cell, said the SAD-BJP alliance was yet to fulfil its promise of launching the atta-dal scheme for the underprivileged in the state.Gurinder Singh Sabi, general secretary, Punjab unit, and DCC president O.P. Sareen were also present .

Nurses Day celebrated
:Nurses Day has been celebrated in the auditorium of the Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha College of Nursing at Sarabha, today. Avtar Singh Grewal, chairman of the institute, presided over the function. Anna Grewal from Canada was the guest of honour.On this occasion, Swapna Melchisedec, principle of the college of nursing, presented welcome speech and best wishes to the nursing students.The students of the institute participated in poster and rangoli competition. And those who attained first, second and third position were given prizes.Speaking on the occasion Avtar Singh Grewal and Vijay Kumar, advocate, highlighted the duties of the nurses and also advised them to be sincere towards their duties.

2 held with illicit liquor
The Sidhwan Bet police in two separate incidents, has arrested two persons with illicit liquor and booked them under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act.Gurmail Singh of Gagg Kalan was arrested in Kot Umra village. 6180 ml of illicit liquor was seized from his possession. Whereas, in the other incident, Kala Singh of the same village was arrested from Bhundri village with 6930 ml of illicit liquor

2 held with poppy husk
Kewal Singh, alias, Bhola of Naragwal Kalan and Ranjit Singh, alias, Najju of Sobhivas, were arrested by the Dehlon police from Kila Raipur while they were carrying poppy husk on their scooter. The poppy husk weighed 35 kg. A case under Sections 15, 25, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered.

1 held under Gambling Act
The Raikot police of Kasba Raikot village has arrested Kamal Kumar, alias, Sonu of Barnala . The police recovered Rs 3,500 from his possession.The police also recovered number slips. According to information, Kamal Kumar was alluring people to invest on some number to multiply their money. The Raikot police has registered a case under Sections 13, 3 and 67 of the Gambling Act.

Father, son assaulted: The Sidhwan Bet police has booked five unknown persons on the charge of assault. The accused allegedly stopped Ajaib Singh and his son Rashpal Singh of Talwara on their and assaulted them with dah.The Sidhwan Bet police has registered a case under Sections 341, 323 and 506 of the IPC against the unknown persons.The injured have been admitted in civil hospital Sidhwan Bet.

Man attempts suicide
: A former employee of the Pepsi Foods Limited at Channo village, near Bhawanigarh, Baljinder Singh, on Saturday tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on himself in front of the factory. Superintendent of police (headquarters) Dharam Singh told The Tribune over the phone that Baljinder had been removed from service three-four years ago.

NURPUR
One killed in hit-and-run case
: An unidentified car killed one person and seriously injured another on the National Highway at Bodh on Friday night. The police has registered a case of murder under Sections 302 and 307 of the IPC. The police said it was a planned murder in which the victims were targeted to be eliminated by giving the shape of a road accident. The deceased has been identified as Kashmir Singh, resident of Bassa Waziran, who succumbed to his injuries at the Civil Hospital whereas, injured Anil Kumar has been referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. A massive hunt has been lodged to nab the accused driver. 

Three injured as cars collide: Three occupants of a car were seriously injured in a head-on collision when their car collided with a Maruti car which was coming from the opposite direction at Niazpur on Friday. The injured Mohan Dutt, Sonika and Amita were rushed to a nearby hospital. The injured hailed from Sirmaur district. A case under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC has been registered against Gobind Singh of Baranda village for rash and negligent driving. He was arrested and bailed out by the police.

: Being the first programme of its kind in India, the ICICI Prudential Life Insurance will launch a specialised programme on postgraduate courses in management and insurance and later the students will be placed in the sales and distribution function of the ICICI Prudential as executive trainees. Students will need to qualify through the selection process to sign up for the programme. The career cum job fair will be held at Dharamsala on May 12 and 13, Palampur on May 14 and 15, Jogindernagar on May 16, Mandi from May 17 to 19, Kullu on May 18 and Sundernagar on May 20.
