Rape case registered:
A case of rape of a young woman of village Hardo Khanpur by the two persons at Pacca Badala has been reported in the Bulhowal Police Station on Thursday. The police has booked Satish Kumar and his accomplice Billa of Pacca Badala and one Harminder Kaur. the accused allegedly gave some intoxicated soft drink to the victim. When she became subconscious, they took her to village Pacca Badala and allegedly gang raped her there.

Duped: Fake travel agents had duped a persons of Rs 1.50 lakh on the name of sending him to U.K. The police on Wednesday night arrested Ashok Kumari, her husband Roop Lal and brother-in-law Mohinder Pal. Arnish Kumar alleged that the trio took money for sending him abroad but they neither sent him nor returned his money. 

Dowry case: A case of torturing and maltreating a house wife by members of her in-laws family has been reported in Model Town Police Station on Wednesday evening. In her complaint Arti stated that she got married with Satish Kumar Ghai two years ago and soon after the marriage, she was allegedly maltreated and tortured for dowry by the members of her in-laws family.

Free check-up camp:
Virk Hospital is organisng a free check-up camp for childless couples. “The camp would be organised from May 20 to 31 on the hospital premises,” said Dr S.P.S Virk, scientific director of the hospital.

Opium seized
: The police have arrested Baljinder Singh and recovered one kg opium from his possession on Thursday. The accused was nabbed at a naka laid near Sahni village. A case has been registered.

FUNCTION:
The Old Students’ Association of Government Mohindra College will hold a function at the Chandigarh Press Club, Sector 27-B, Chandigarh, on May 19 to inaugurate the Chandigarh chapter of the association, J. Roy Mangla, president of the association, disclosed here on Thursday. Jagjit Puri, secretary, public relations and medical education, Punjab, will preside over the function. Justice M.R. Agnihotri (retd) and Padma Bhushan Dr Sardar Anjum will also grace the occasion.

Bilaspur
Youth killed in accident
: Gurnam Singh (21) of Dhabhetta village in this district was killed on the spot while Jitendra Kumar (22) and Ramiz Mohammad, also of the same village, were injured seriously when their scooter collided with a truck near Suharghat, about 40 km from here, on Thursday. Reports said the scooter was totally smashed. The truck driver fled after the accident. A case has been registered. Naina Devi naib tehsildar provided an immediate grant-in-aid of Rs10,000 to the bereaved family. Gurnam Singh was a water guard in the IPH Department. Shops in Suharghat remained closed in memory of the deceased. 

ATMA project: Farmers should take advantage of suitable climate and favorable conditions, including liberal financial help and training provided by government under various schemes for adopting floriculture, mushroom and silk production and raising orchards, DC Rajinder Singh said while reviewing progress of the “ATMA” project in the district here. He said Rs 19.35 lakh was sanctioned for this project last year while a working plan worth Rs 41.32 lakh for the current year had been sent to the Centre for approval. 

Kangra
Remanded:
The court has remanded Vicky, alias Kotla, Sunny and Nanda, both residents of Rajol, in police custody for one more day in the Backward Class Financial Corporation ransacking case. The additional district and sessions judge today extended the interim bail to other five suspected accused persons Parveen Rana of Kuthwan, Sachin of Matur, Omkar Singh of Sameerpur, Vikas of Meherna and Narinder Patial till May 18. The court directed the five to cooperate with the police in the investigation of the case. DSP said the persons on bail too were questioned in the case. DSP Ajeet Singh Thakur said the third car involved in the case was yet to be recovered by the police.

Bike taken away:
A motorbike which was impounded by the city police from a local resident who was found driving it without proper documents, was stolen from the city police chowki on Wednesday night. A police team has been sent to recover the vehicle and the accused would be arrested shortly, an officer claimed.

Satsang: Viashva Jagriti Mission, Mandi mandal, would be organising a satsang under the aegis of Sudhanshuji Maharaj from June 10 to June 13 at the Paddal maidan in Mandi.

Five-yr RI for carrying charas:
The Sessions Judge, Mandi, has convicted Satish Rana of Bajachher village in Gurgaon district of Haryana for possessing 1 kg of charas and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment of five years and to pay a fine of Rs 50,000. In default of payment of the fine, the convict will further undergo imprisonment for one year. The convict was nabbed in March, 2004, in Pandoh, when he was boarding a private bus which was on the way from Kullu to Mandi. The police recovered 1 kg of charas from the bag carried by the convict.
