All set for bandh today

Not taking any chances in view of the bandh call given by Akal Takht tomorrow, the deputy commissioner-cum-district magistrate Sumer Singh Gurjar, while exercising powers under Section 144, CrPC, has banned the assembly of five or more persons, taking out of processions and holding of rallies in the district with effect from today.

Dhanda promises to root out corruption

The chief parliamentary secretary, local bodies, Harish Rai Dhanda, has asserted that he would ensure to root out corruption from the department. Addressing a function organised by the Rishi Nagar F Block Welfare Association here last night, Dhandha hinted at an immediate action against a certain corrupt mafia operating in the system.

Physically challenged persons given free prostheses

Mahavir Viklang Help Centre under the aegis of Mahavir International, organised a camp for donating artificial limbs to physically challenged persons at Lord Mahavira Homoeopathic Medical College here today. Prostheses were distributed free of cost to seven persons at the camp.

Victims responding well to treatment

Two young girls, Rajwant and Sandeep Kaur, who were victims of an acid attack in the city by a co-worker last month and are currently under treatment at Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), are responding well to the treatment.

GADVASU to focus on fishery research
Ludhiana, May 21
A meeting of the Progressive Fish Farmers Club (PFFC) has been held under the chairmanship of Dr O.S. Parmar, director of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, at Ludhiana. Addressing the farmers, Parmar said the fishery sector was growing at a higher rate as compared to agriculture and dairy and has more potential for exploitation in Punjab. He said emphasis will be laid on the development of fisheries expertise, improved fish processing technologies and farmers' training.

Club being misused?
The prestigious Sutlej club is regularly being misused to promote business and settle business rivalries. In the last evening's fashion show, one of the jewellery sponsor's rounds, who had paid Rs 40,000 to the organisers, was spoilt by switching off the lights and the sound system. After some argument, the sponsor holding jewellery worth lakhs of rupees, was allowed to showcase his jewellery.
