Terming tobacco and allied products as the major cause of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, Dr K.C. Goel, district health officer, Sangrur, called upon the leaders of various social and educational organisations to launch a crusade against the menace and create awareness among masses about the adverse affects of the addiction.


Educational institutes violate directions

Even three years after the implementation of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, supply and Distribution) Act, 2003, most of the educational institutions in the area have failed to execute the explicit orders by the district administration asking them to comply with the provisions of the Act.

IMA cautions against smoking

The Ludhiana branch of the Indian Medical Association has cautioned the people against smoking which carries serious health hazards, and can lead to life-threatening diseases like cancer in addition to other diseases of cardio-vascular system and respiratory tract.

2 booked for kidnapping

5 city students clear IIT-JEE exam

PAU offers short-term farm course

Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University will offer a three-month training course in agriculture for men beginning August 1. Matric pass rural candidates in the age group of 20-40 years from all over Punjab (except Gurdaspur and Amritsar districts) are eligible for admission to this course.
