Gujjar violence: Raj police to respond to SC notice

Jaipur, June 6
The Rajasthan Police will file a detail report on the violent incidents in the wake of the Gujjar stir in response to the notice issued by the Supreme Court, Director General of Police A S Gill said today.

Terming the protests as a “national shame” the week-long violence that accompanied the Gujjar protest, a Bench of Justices Arijit Pasayat and D K Jain on Tuesday directed the governments of Rajasthan, Haryana, UP and Delhi to submit their action taken reports on the incidents.

“I am yet to receive the apex court’s notice. As soon as we receive it, a report will be submitted to the honourable court taking every aspect of the violent incidents that rocked the state for six days,” Gill said on Wednesday.

The Bench had asked the DGPs of Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, along with the Commissioner of Delhi Police, to file their affidavits within 10 days as to what actions have been taken and/or are proposed to be taken against the offenders.

“It is a national shame when hordes of people are destroying public and private properties,” the Bench observed while taking suo motu cognisance of the incidents on the basis of media reports. — PTI
