Chandigarh scorched through the day as the mercury shot up to 43.6°C , making it the hottest day of the season. Till today, 43.4 degrees was the highest day temperature of the season recorded on June 3.

The Army has put on hold its order to discharge 27,000 troops, who are in poor physical shape. A communiqué from the Army headquarters received at various establishments this week states that there will be no mass discharge of low medical category (LMC) troops till 2009.

Infant’s death: Family repeats charge

Even as the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) authorities claimed that a one-month-old child, Om, was resuscitated by the doctors after being vaccinated wrongly by a paramedic, the parents of the child from Ambala City alleged the hospital authorities were trying to save the accused.
