The Greenland Public School authorities today agreed to give free education to three children and a job to their mother after the morning drama, when an unruly mob, including wife and her relatives, staged a dharna in front of the school, along with the body of her husband, who was employed as a driver there a month ago.

Gang of dacoits busted, four nabbed
Jagraon, June 11
The local police today claimed to have busted a gang of dacoits with the arrest of Gurpreet Singh of Fatehgarh Korotana, Balwinder Singh of Bhoipur, Surinderpal Singh of Jogian Mohalla Dharmkot and Jagdish Singh of Jeevan Patti, Fatehgarh. Motor bikes, pistol and sharp edged weapons were also recovered from them.

Badalís effigy burnt

Members of the SC and ST cell of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee today burned the effigy of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for not being able to control violence in the state during the recent past.

Kidney patient needs help

Anju, a resident of Jalandhar, has been diagnosed with severe chronic renal failure. This mother of a baby boy of eight months, comes from a poor family, and is unable to meet the expenses of her treatment. At present, she is undergoing haemodialysis twice a week at Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) here.

Heroin worth Rs 9 cr seized, one arrested
Ludhiana, June 11
The officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have arrested a truck driver Amarjit Singh and seized around 9 kgs of heroin from his possession. The contraband is said to be worth Rs 9 crore in the international market.

PAU to get Rs 100-cr grant
Ludhiana, June 11
The Punjab Agricultural University is likely to get an annual of grant of Rs 100 crore during the current financial year against the earlier Rs 80 crore.

Dr Yog Raj Chanana, emeritus scientist and former head, Department of Horticulture, PAU, has been nominated as a member of the Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) by the director-general, ICAR, New Delhi, to review the work done at the National Research Centre for Grapes.

Under the directions of the Punjab ICT Education Society (PICTES), state project director, Sarva Shiksha Project, Punjab and Chandigarh, and under the patronage of prof Baldev Singh, officiating principal, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Jagraon (Ludhiana), four 3-day educational satellite (Edusat) script writing workshops of English for the computer faculty of district Ludhiana, were organised.
