Guwahati blast kills 5

Guwahati, June 23
Five persons including an 18-month-old girl and a seven-year-old boy were killed and over 20 injured when suspected militants belonging to the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) triggered a blast near a Mosque in the Machkhowa area at around 7:40 am on Saturday.

The timed bomb was planted on a bicycle parked in front of a tea stall owned by one Rafique Ahmed who was killed in the blast along with his seven-year-old son Safique Ahmed. The three others killed in the blast were identified as Anisha Begum (18 months), Sanjib Ali (25) and Hasem Ali (17). Safique Ali had gone to his fatherís tea stall to have breakfast before going to school. The blast occurred when the city was to host the first ever international athletics meet.
