Motor cyclist killed
: A motor cyclist,Satnam Singh (30), and pillion-rider Waheguru Singh (65), residents of Radewala village, were injured seriously when a car used by members of a marriage party from Gajsinghpur in the neighbouring Sriganganagar area hit the two-wheeler on the Sriganganagar road on Sunday. Waheguru Singh later succumbed to injuries in the Civil Hospital.

Murdered: Beeru Ram, a shepherd, allegedly murdered his elder brother Bhani Ram at Uttamsinghwala village in the neighbouring Hanumangarh area on Sunday. Beeru Ram is absconding. Their sons had a dispute over a piece of land, family sources said. The police has registered a case.

Two arrested: Anil Kumar Tarad, a resident of Manniawali village, and Rakesh Rinku have been arrested under Sections 392, 452 and 34, IPC, for allegedly robbing a cloth shop in Sadulshehar, 31 km from here, last week. They were produced in a court on Monday, which remanded them in police custody for three days.

Caught taking bribe
: The vigilance bureau caught Teja Singh Kaler, assistant registrar, Cooperative Society,while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from Darshan Singh to reinstate him at the post of secretary of the society at Cheenewal Kalan village. Teja has been taken into custody.

2 run over by train: Manjeet Kaur (60) and her son Jagtar Singh (30), residents of Lakhi Colony, died when they were run over by the Ambala-Ganganagar passenger train while they were crossing the railway track near SD College on Monday morning.

Suicide: Jagtar Singh, alias Kaka, a local resident,ended his life by jumping before the Ambala-Sriganganagar train here on Monday morning.Sources revealed that some feud in the family was the reason behind the extreme step.

Talk on drugs
: A seminar on drug abuse and drug trafficking was organised on the premises of Jeevan-Aas Deaddiction-cum-Rehabilitation Centre on the eve of international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking here on Monday. Amarjit Hamrol, secretary, District Red Cross Society, said drug trafficking was increasing at an alarming rate.

Suicide by teen: Rekha Rani (18) of Parsowal died at the local Civil Hospital on Sunday night. According to police sources, Rekha Rani was mentally upset and committed suicide by consuming poison.

Traffic blocked: Activists of the Sanatan Dharam Mandir Committee of Dhanoya village staged a dharna at the SDM chowk. They later blocked vehicu against the district administration for not solving the land dispute of a local temple between the temple committee and village panchayat.

Man, son booked
: Lakhvir Singh and his son Jasveer of Mallah have been booked under Sections 447, 511 and 34 of the IPC. Lakhvir Singh had mortgaged 4 bigha 7 biswa land to Harbans Singh of the village for Rs 3.25 lakh on May 27. He had taken a loan from a Jagraon-based arhtiya and wanted to repay it. The mortgage deed was written but not registered as the Punjab and Haryana High Court had put a stay on it. The possession was given to Harbans Singh, who started tilling the land. Later, Lakhvir Singh and his son, Jasveer Singh, started ploughing the land with a tractor.

Six booked: The Rajkot police has booked Navdeep Singh, alias Neeta, Sarbjeet Singh, Rabinder,alias Happy, Navdeep and Ashoo for allegedly assaulting Rajdev, alias Raja of Kalsan with sticks and base ball bats. Rajdev used to support Gagandeep Singh of Shehjapur when ever he used to contest for presidentship of a sports club. The assailants had a grudge against Rajdev. The five of them came in a car waylaid Rajdev while he was going a motor cycle with two friends and later assaulted him.

Two arrested: The Raikot police has arrested Pardeep Singh, alias Lali of Kothe Premsar and Ranjit Singh of Nathowal, from the Bassian Raikot road while they were going to sell a peter engine stolen by them. A case has been registered against them under Section 379 and 411 of the IPC.

Poppy husk seized; one held
: The police arrested a convict on parole and recovered 100 kg of poppy husk from his possession. Giving details, SHO Sadar police station Amrik Singh Chahal on Monday said police had a secret information that Satnam Singh who had been convicted for smuggling poppy husk in Nurmahal, was planning to smuggle the major consignment. A police party raided his house in nearby Sunnra Rajputan village and recovered poppy husk.



: District and Session judge Sushil Kukreja on Monday sentenced a Nigerian national Kalam Abdul Sule to four-years imprisonment under the NDPS Act. He was directed to pay a fine of Rs 50,000. The accused was nabbed at the main bus stand here on May 31 and 20 gms of smack was recovered from his possession. A case under NDPS 21-A was registered against him. The accused would have to undergo further imprisonment of six months in default of the payment of fine.

Snake bite
: A migrant labourer died of snake bite at Bhatolikalan near here on Monday morning. He was sleeping along with relatives in his jhuggi. He woke up with a cry at around 4 am. He was bitten on his right arm. He was rushed to Civil Hospital, Nalagarh but died on the way.

One dies: Vinod Rai, a migrant labourer from Bihar, died after consuming liquor on Monday. A heavy drinker, he was found lying unconscious in a village near here. A passerby noticed him and rushed to doctor. The doctor declared him brought dead.
