Bankers withdraw stir:
The joint forum of employees’ federations of regional Gramin Banks has withdrawn the call for a countrywide strike on June 29 and 30. President of the All-Punjab Gramin Bank Officers Association A.P.S. Brar said here Thursday that the central labour commissioner had initiated reconciliation proceedings.

Manch’s demand:
The Swadeshi Jagran Manch has urged Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to honour all those persons who had opposed imposition of the Emergency in 1975 during Indira Gandhi’s tenure. At a meeting here on Tuesday, manch secretary Davinder Pal urged the Chief Minster to treat such persons as freedom fighters who remained in jail for a period of three months or more during the Emergency.

Man arrested with pistol: The police arrested Amrinder Singh and seized a country made pistol with live cartridges from him. The accused has been identified as a resident of Prem Nagar Bohranwala and a case has been registered against him. Meanwhile, in another incident Jai Inder Singh of Rangar Nangal village was arrested along with 5 gm of smack by the police at a bridge near Natt village. A case has been registered against the accused. 

Hoshiarpur
Woman duped of Rs 22 lakh:
A couple has duped a woman of Rs 22 lakh in the pretext of sending her husband abroad. The Mukerian police has booked Avinash Kaur, her husband Gurbachan Singh of Gallarian under Sections 406, 420 and 120 B of the IPC and has arrested Gurbachan.

Sarpanch suspended after arrest: Gurdev Singh Sidhu, director, rural development and panchayats has ordered the suspension of Sukhdev Singh, sarpanch of gram panchayat Hardo Khanpur of Hoshiarpur Block - I under Section 20 (3) of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act 1994. Sukhdev has been suspended on account of his arrest in a case under Sections 307, 323, 328, 148 and 149 of the IPC. According to the official sources, the director has also debarred the sarpanch from participating in the proceedings of the panchayat. He has also instructed block development and panchayat officer, Hoshiarpur, to arrange to take the charge of the record and property and hand over the same to an authorised panch. 

Woman held with smack: The Garhshankar police arrested a woman, identified as Nirmla Devi, and seized 50 gram smack from her possession in Denowal Khurd village yesterday. A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered. 

Rs 50,000 stolen: Some miscreants stole Rs 50,000 from the dickey of scooter of Satwant Singh of local Mohalla Krishna Nagar on Tuesday. Satwant had gone to Arun Iron store at Afgan road to pay Rs 1 lakh after keeping the remaining amount in the scooter’s dickey. When he returned he found the lock of the dickey broken and Rs 50,000 stolen. 

Four injured in attack: A group of people equipped with firearms and sharpedged weapons attacked and injured Harmeet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, Jagdip Singh (all residents of Shehbajpur) and Amarjit Singh of Tanda. One of the accused Bachitter Singh allegedly fired a number of shots from a gun, injuring the injured. The assailants also damaged parked vehicles and escaped. All the injured were admitted to the Tanda Civil Hospital. According to police sources, old enmity was the cause of assault. A case has been registered. 

FIR against travel agent: A case was registered against Gurminder Singh for allegedly duping Jagdev Singh of Kalewal village on the pretext of sending him to Spain. According to police sources, Jagdev Singh alleged that Gurminder took Rs 50,000 from him for sending him to Spain. Neither did the travel agent send him abroad nor returned his money.

TARN TARAN
Intruder held: A BSF paroling party arrested a Pakistani national Nasu Rulah after he entered into the Indian side from the Khemkaran sector on Wednesday night. A case was registered on the statement of an Assistant Commandant, 130 BN, BSF, who was heading the patrolling party.

Three booked under Domestic Violence Act: Three members of a family in Gandiwind Saran village have been booked under Domestic Violence Act by the Verowal police. The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, his father Jagir Singh and mother Bimal Kaur. The case has been registered on the complaint of Sarabjit Kaur, wife of Sukhwinder Singh, on August 15, 2006. She said the accused had been harassing her mentally and physically for more and more dowry soon after the marriage. No accused has been arrested yet.

Sabzi mandi:
IPH Minister Kaul Singh Thakur said that a sabzi mandi would be built at Kataula in the Drang constituency soon enabling growers to sell their produce in local markets. He announced this while laying the foundation stone of a Rs 3-lakh primary school building at Badaun. He also inaugurated the Rs 3.80 lakh middle school building at Badaun.

NURPUR
Nominated: State general secretary of INTUC Rajnesh Sharma has been nominated member of the state minimum wages board. A notification in this connection has been issued.

Solan
3 hurt in blast:
A blast rocked pharmaceutical unit Perennial Medicare located on the Shamti Road here, injuring at least three workers. The injured were immediately rushed to the Regional Hospital here where they were given first aid. According to MD Vinod Gupta, a drier burst probably due to a mechanical fault in the capsule section located in the basement. The blast occurred around 5.30 p.m. and there was luckily none in the room. Gupta .
