Weary BSNL
No luck with landlines yet
Chandigarh, July 3
Despite round the clock repair work to restore the exchange, the BSNL was unable to restore landline phones, Internet and STD services, besides broad band services, which remained non-functional for the fourth day today. None of the BSNL officials seemed to be clear about the progress with each giving a different version.
Fire brigade points out flaws
Chandigarh, July 3
While BSNL employees are claiming that their equipment developed moisture due to the water pumped in to douse the fire in the transmission room, thus partially delaying repair, officials of the fire department said this would not have happened had the BSNL installed a CO2 flooding system in the office.

The engineering department of the Chandigarh administration has chalked out a plan to meet exigencies caused by the rains and redress complaints of the public. A central control room would be set up in the secretariat where operators shall remain on duty round the clock along with two vehicles.

Two incidents of chain snatching rocked the city this evening. In the first incident, the chain of Vijay Anand, a resident of Sector 15-A, was snatched by unidentified persons when she was on her way to the Raghunath Temple in the sector.

Freak accident triggers traffic jam
Chandigarh, July 3
In a freak accident, two buses and a car were involved in a pileup on the road separating Sectors 35 and 36 this evening, leading to a traffic jam. However, no one was injured in the accident.

There seems to be no end to the woes of Zirakpur residents. After being at the receiving end of the authorities for the lack of basic amenities, they have another thing to worry about. If allegations of Vinod Jaiswal, a retired Indian Air Force officer and resident of Silver City, are any indication, the postal department has been giving a raw deal to the residents.

Mahindra Renault unveils new Logan
Chandigarh, July 3
Mahindra Renault today unveiled two new variants of Logan. The new models 1.6 GLX (petrol) and 1.5 dCi DLX (diesel) are priced at Rs 5.37 Lakh and Rs 6.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Chandigarh), respectively. These variants have been positioned in between the GLE/DLE and GLS/DLS variants of Logan.

Panjab University has declared results of the following examinations held in April/May, 2007 today: MA I (mass communication); BE (electronics and electrical communication), eighth semester; MSc in zoology second year (annual system); BHMS (regular and re-appear) third Prof; BE (E and EC) first semester: BE (E and EC) eighth semester; BE (civil) first semester; BE (mechanical) first semester; BE (telecommunication and IT) seventh semester (special examination).

95 pc get placement
Mohali, July 3
The Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology (GJIMT), Mohali, today claimed that 95 per cent of its MBA pass-outs had been placed with top companies of the country. Informing about the phenomenal success that the GJIMT students have had this year, Harbhajan Singh, placement officer at GJIMT, asserted that the illustrious record of having 100 per cent placement over the past few years was going to be repeated again this year as many more placements were in the pipeline.

The affidavits filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court today by the adviser to the UT administrator and UT deputy commissioner questioned the veracity of the news report on the basis of which the court had taken a suo motu notice on June 8.

Camp for u-17 boys today
Mohali, July 3
A 10-day preparatory coaching camp for u-17 boys will begin at the PCA Cricket Stadium, here tomorrow. Although the camp has begun today, it will be officially inaugurated at 11.30 am tomorrow.

Ban orders for cyber cafe owners

The district magistrate has prohibited the use of cyber cafes by persons whose identity cannot be established. According to a press note, cyber cafe owners have been asked to maintain a register bearing the identity of the user.

The Chandigarh administration has decided to permit the extension of basements meant only for parking by additional 10 per cent of the plot area, beyond the permissible built-up zone.
