BARNALA
4 held in murder case: With the arrest of four persons, including the husband of deceased Kamal Kaur (23), the local police succeeded in solving the murder case within 24 hours. The arrested ones include husband Jagseer Singh, his cousin Gurjant Singh, Gurdeep Singh and Sukhwinder Singh.According to Sukhdev Singh Bhatti, SP(D),Jagseer Singh had caught his wife in a compromising position with Bagga Singh of adjoining Khyali village. He attacked her with an axe due to which she died on the spot. However, Kamalís mother Mahinder Kaur has alleged that it is a dowry death. The Tapa police has registered a case.

BATHINDA
Poppy husk
: Jarnail Singh, alias Jally, and Binder Singh, alias Kala, two smugglers were arrested by the Narcotic Control cell of the district police and 25 bags, weighing 35 kg each, of poppy husk were recovered from them. Nau Nihal Singh, SSP, said smugglers were arrested at the Jaid village road of the district at a checkpoint.

FEROZEPUR
NRI problems:
To deal with complaints and sort out problems concerning NRIs,the police has set up a special cell here. Giving details, SSP Dinesh Pratap said the cell would listen to the grievances of NRIs belonging to the border district.The cell would be under DSP Bahader Singh and SI Iqbal Singh.NRIs of the district can also lodge their compliant directly to him on sspfzr@redifmail.com.

PATHANKOT
9 arrested: Sanjiv Kumar of Adam Vadma, Gurinder Singh of Raina village, Bopesh Logra of Dhariwal, Faqira of Sailli Kulian, Baldev Singh of Pahra village, Dilbagh Singh of Behrampur, Ratni of Taragarh, Sudesh Kumari of Gharota town and Des Raj of Sujanpur, were arrested under the NDPS Act here on Wednesday in a special drive launched by the district police.

Farm labourers: The general body meeting of the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union was held here on Wednesday under the presidentship of Bhup Chand Chano,a senior leader.Sunit Chopra, national joint secretary of the union,took a serious note for not forming any policy on the work conditions of farm labourers when the number of this section is half the population in villages.Vasdev Jasmer,Pal Singh Jamaria and Devinderjit Singh Dhillon also spoke.
