Protest march
: The Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta (Ugrahan) on Saturday organised a protest march to mobilise more farmers for its ongoing agitation. The BKU had shifted the venue of the demonstration from Burjmuhar village. 

Died: Sahib Ram (40), in charge of the rural post office at Seetogunno village in the subdivision, succumbed to his injuries on Friday. He had been injured seriously as the motorcycle he was driving on his way back from Dabwali went out of control and hit a roadside tree near Bhittiwala village on June 26. 

2 thefts: Miscreants on Friday night broke open the steel shutter of a bookstall outside DAV College here and decamped with cash and valuables. Another theft was reported from a temple located on the Nirankari Bhavan road. 

Road show
: The State Bank of Patiala organised a road show here on Saturday to showcase its various deposit and advances schemes. Flagged off by J.S. Jandu, AGM, from East Mohan Nagar, the road show culminated at Verka. 

BA/BSc results: The results of BA/BSc (part II) examination of Guru Nanak Dev University held in April this year will be declared on July 8. Disclosing this, Dr R.S. Bawa, registrar of the university, said this result would be available on university website www.gnduonline.org after 5 pm.

: Jarnail Singh and Jaswant Singh were arrested here on Saturday for their involvement in the smuggling of narcotics. The police seized 4.2 quintals of poppy husk from them. A case has been registered.

Two booked:
Kulwant Singh of Raikot and Tarlochan Singh of Patti Khela, Raikot, has allegedly trespassed into the land of Kulwant Kaur of Raikot and damaged her crops. The Raikot police has registered a case. 

One held: Gurpreet Singh of Rasulpur has been arrested under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC for committing theft. According to information, Gurpreet Singh allegedly stole a cell phone of Gobind Singh of his village. 

Three held
: The district police has arrested Hari Ram, Piara Singh and Baldev Singh for circulating fake currency among residents of rural areas. Thirtysix fake currency notes of Rs 100 denomination had been recovered from them. 

8 booked
: Eight persons were booked for damaging public property and interfering in PSEB officials’ duty here on Friday.Six persons, Sukhdev Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Mehal Singh, Major Singh and his two sons Tehal Singh and Amar Singh,had damaged a building of anganwadi at Kaderwala village. In another case,following a complaint from the SDO, PSEB at Baghapurana, the police booked Mahinder Singh and Gurcharan Singh of Rajeana village for interfering in the working of officials. 

Corruption case
: The police arrested Suresh Singh,a senior Congress worker of Dhar block and resident of Bhabbar village, under the Prevention of Corruption Act here on Saturday.He used to take money in the name of police officers to get official work done.

4 nabbed: The distict police arrested two persons under the NDPS Act and two under the Excise Act here on Saturday. Intoxicating capsules and illicit liquor had been recovered from them. 

: Amit Popli has been appointed assistant district attorney, Ropar. 

Water shortage: There is no water supply in various areas of the town, including Civil Lines and Ward No I, for the past three days. Residents of the colony have decided to meet the president of the municipal council in this regard.
