Minister for local government, industry and commerce Manoranjan Kalia said today that the state had implemented a comprehensive development plan to provide basic amenities in the cities and towns during the next five years. In the first phase, 40 towns had been selected under a scheme known as Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns
(UIDSSMT).

Aanganwari workers stage dharna
Ludhiana, July 10
Nearly 500 aanganwari workers staged a dharna here today in protest against the apathetic attitude of the state government. The rally started from Chattar Singh Park via Bharat Nagar Chowk, Jagraon Bridge and finally ended at the railway station.

31 complaints redressed

As many as 31 complaints were settled at the sangat darshan programme held at the Bachat Bhavan here today. Presided over by K.P. Brar, additional deputy commissioner (ADC), in which 69 reports were taken up for discussion, out of which 31 were settled after discussion on the spot. On the occasion, 20 new complaints were also received.
Rs 2 lakh relief for chhabeel victims’ kin

Thousands of persons, including politicians and bureaucrats, visited Sayan village, near here, to pay tributes to the victims of tragedy who were crushed to death when they were serving sweetened water to passersby at a chhabeel organised by residents of the village on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road on July 1.
