Police station gheraoed

CBI nets another policeman
 Chandigarh, July 13
In yet another Friday crackdown on the city police, CBI sleuths today caught ASI Baljit Singh taking a bribe. The ASI, posted at the Palsora police post, was arrested by the CBI and Rs 1,000 cash allegedly taken by him from Ram Nath.

Tobacco control cell formed
Chandigarh, July 13
The Chandigarh administration has constituted a Chandigarh Tobacco Control Cell (CTCC) to act as a focal point for all tobacco-related activities and complaints relating to violation of the provisions of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.

Officials told to compound offence

The administration has authorised food and drug inspectors, and police officers of the rank of sub-inspector or above to compound any offence committed under Section 4 or 6 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act 2003 in the area of the Union Territory. They have been authorised to accept the fine or the compounding fee from violators. — TNS
