Neglect claims life of four-week-old girl

Barely a week after Kuldeep Singh bludgeoned to death his wife and her mother on July 8, their four-week-old orphaned daughter died in Ambedkar Nagar, Focal Point, last evening for want of care. The girl’s picture, lying on a cot along with her two-year-old sister Mona.

Congress men rally behind Amarinder

Congressmen seem to have started rallying behind former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and his family. This was evident today when quite a few of them, including some sitting and former legislators, converged on the local vigilance bureau office where Captain’s son Raninder and son-in-law Raminder were to depose before the officials.

Info panel imposes fine on police

The State Information Commission, Punjab (SICP), has slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on the Ludhiana(Urban) police for taking a year to supply information sought by a local advocate.

Three gangs busted; two cars recovered

The police today claimed to have busted three gangs of local youths, who were involved in various cases of car stealing, purse and chain snatching, besides stealing electronic goods.

Poppy husk seized

The local police has arrested two persons for allegedly smuggling in at least 95 kg poppy husk. The police has booked three persons under the NDPS Act.

Rural poor demonstrate

Hundreds of activists of the Dehati Mazdoor Sabha today staged a protest demonstration against the rising prices of the essential commodities. They held a procession beating tins and utensils to remind the government of its promises of providing subsidised atta and dal to the poor.
