Two held for RMP’s murder

The local police today claimed to have solved the four-and-half-month-old murder case of Roshan Lal, a registered medical practitioner (RMP) of Alowal village, falling under the Laddowal police station, with the arrest of two persons.

564 bottles of liquor seized, one held
Ludhiana, July 19
A team of enforcement officials of the Excise and Taxation Department conducted a raid at a house in Kila Mohalla on Daresi Road, falling in the jurisdiction of Police Division No 4, here yesterday and seized 564 bottles of Indian- made foreign liquor which had been smuggled from Chandigarh for sale in the city.

Woman burnt to death for dowry

A married woman was allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws for not bringing dowry at Katani Kalan village this morning. The deceased leaves behind a two-and-half-year-old daughter.

15-kg opium sized
Jagraon: Four persons were arrested and 15-kg opium seized from their possession. Those arrested have been identified as Ajmer Singh of Ferurain, Amrit Ram, Ram Niwas and Khushal Singh of Soodhi (Madhya Pradesh). In charge of the Narcotics Cell, Ludhiana (Rural) police, intercepted a car (MP-09CA-6734) at Farurain village and seized the opium. A case has been registered against them under the NDPS Act and the car impounded. — OC

During heavy rains water gets stagnated in orchards, especially in the low-level areas. This was stated by scientists J.S. Bal and J.S. Randhawa, Department of Horticulture, Punjab Agricultural University. They said if the water gets stagnated for a few days it could affects the well-established fruit trees.
