Lucknow, July 19
The state government has no information that Amitabh Bachchan is surrendering his farmland in Barabanki district and giving up claims of being a farmer, a role he just could not carry.

“The chief minister’s office has not received any letter in this regard,” said principal secretary to the chief minister Shailesh Krishana here today.

Krishna categorically denied rumours that last week Big B had written to Chief Minister Mayawati announcing to donate the controversial 4.5 bigha of agricultural land in Daulatpur village of Barabanki to the gram sabha.

“As the matter is subjudice and pending in the high court, I do not want to comment any further,” said Krishna.

However, sources in the CM’s secretariat pointed out that even if such a decision is communicated to the CM it might not help bail out the superstar from his controversial land deal in Uttar Pradesh. “The title deed of the land is stated to be in dispute, as such it can not be donated”, maintain sources.

The major point in the Amitabh Bachchan land deal case pending in the high court pertains to ascertaining how and in whose connivance the land records were fudged to help the superstar claim farmer’s status in back date so as to make him eligible to acquire land near Pune in Maharashtra. As such the case would continue irrespective of Bachchan’s decision to donate it or keep it, sources underline, comparing the decision to donate the land to that of a bank robber deciding to return the booty to the banker.

There was news that Bachchan was quite uncomfortable in his role of a farmer and had written to the chief ministers of Maharasthra and Uttar Pradesh announcing to donate his farm land in these two states.
