Bihar flood toll 41, Army out in UP

Patna/Lucknow, August 2
Swollen rivers continued to wreak destruction in 16 Bihar districts affecting over 83 lakh people and claiming 41 human lives, official sources said today.

The Bagmati River breached its embankment near Jathmalpur in worst-hit Darbhanga district and submerged fresh areas in Dholi, Pusa and Kalyanpur blocks in adjoining Samastipur.

Turbulent Kosi demolished its embankment near Pandaul in adjoining Madhubani district bringing fresh tracts under water.

A population of 83.55 lakh face the fury of the deluge in Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, East Champaran, Darbhanga, Patna, Supaul, Bhagalpur, West Champaran, Katihar, Madhubani, Samastipur, Sheohar, Nalanda, Khagaria and Gopalganj districts.

Meanwhile, the Army was called in today to assist the civil administration in dealing with the grim flood situation in Uttar Pradesh, which has so far affected 19 lakh people.
