Man awaits financial help for surgery

his financial condition is not good enough for him to be able to afford the surgery and post-operative care which will cost Rs 2 lakh.

Congress candidate from Ward 48 Surinderpal Singh Bindra today accused his main rival, Manvinderpal Singh Makkar, son of SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar, of misusing SGPC vehicles and deploying sewadars on election work.

BJP expels 3 rebels
Ludhiana, August 3
Bharatiya Janata Party today expelled three party men who had refused to withdraw their nomination papers in support of the SAD-BJP alliance candidates. Those expelled include Parshotam Mittal from Ward 14, Bharat Bhushan Sharma from Ward 34 and Rakesh Vohra from Ward 21. They have been expelled from the primary membership of the party for six years.

Close shave for 60 in pileup
Ludhiana, August 3
Around 60 persons travelling in four vehicles, including three cars and a bus, had a providential escape when their vehicles were involved in a pileup, after a truck they were tailing came to a grinding halt on the national highway, near Dhandari, this afternoon.

4 held, poppy husk seized
Jagraon, August 3
Incharge of Narcotics Cell Ludhiana (Rural) today claimed to have recovered 51 bags of poppy husk from two trucks and arrested four persons in this connection. According to a press note released here today by SSP, District Police, Ludhiana (Rural), Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that a police party, under the supervision of SP (D) Ashok Baath, headed by incharge (narcotics cell) inspector Amarjit Singh was present at T-point Nanaksar on Moga- Jagraon G.T. Road when information was received regarding some persons bringing large amounts of poppy husk in trucks.

Student crushed to death

A class XI student of a local school was killed and another injured when a speeding truck ran over the two while saving a group of pilgrims at the Jagera bridge, near here, this morning.

Bus overturned, one killed
Jagraon, August 3
One person was killed and 20 were injured when a bus of Rishab Spinning Mill, Jodhan, overturned today.

Holland artistes share experiences
Ludhiana, August 3
Two theatre artistes from Holland, Welleke and Sebe, today visited Ludhiana on the invitation of the Ludhiana Kala Manch. They had earlier conducted a theatre workshop in Pakistan. They also visited Punjab Naatshala in Amritsar. Theatre artistes from the city interacted with them at Punjabi Bhawan.
