Ladies Club: The following have taken charge as office-bearers of the Ladies Club here: president- Rama Chhabra; vice-president- Suman Goyal; secretary- Abhida Setia; joint secretary-Raj Setia; cashier- Neelam Thathai; and advisers- Manjeet Popli and Sushma Dhawan. 

Injured : Banarasi Dass, a resident of Jammu Basti, who is posted in the subdivision No. 1 of the PSEB here, sustained serious injuries after falling from an electricity pole while removing a fault in the sadar bazar on Saturday. 

Body found: The body of Bhado Devi, a resident of Malukpura village, was recovered from a sub-canal on Saturday. She had reportedly jumped into the sub-canal on Thursday when her husband Kalu Ram was away to Amarpura village. According to sources, the woman took the extreme step as she was upset over an allegation of theft levelled against her brother by her in-laws.

Suicide : Manohari Devi, reportedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her house in street No. 6 here on Saturday. Her family was away to Chandigarh when she took the extreme step. She had been not feeling well after the death of her husband, Ram Kumar, a few years back.

Arrested : The CIA staff on Sunday arrested Vishnu, a resident of Loonwala village in the Raisinghnagar area, for possessing a .32-bore illicit pistol and three cartridges. Vishnu was on way to Lohgarh village in Haryana to support a friend who was contesting election to a cooperative society. The weapon had been purchased from Rajasthan. 

Installation: District governor elect of the Rotary International, Dr Vinod Sharma, presided over the installation ceremony of the presidents and secretaries with their teams of the Rotary Club (307)and Inner Wheel Club here on Saturday at Harkul resort. R.K Gupta and Kirpal Singh of the Rotary Club and Usha Gupta and Ritu Aggarwal of the Inner Wheel Club were installed as president and secretaries, respectively. 

Killed: SAD MLA Balbeer Singh Gunusí personal driver was killed in a road mishap on Saturday night. The deceased, Bhim Chand, was crushed to death by a car on theCourt Road. The body was handed over to the family of the deceased after post-mortem examination. Car driver Yadvinder Singh has been arrested. A case under Section 304 has been registered.

Ex-Army man commits suicide
: Jagjit Singh of Jhandu village of the district allegedly committed suicide today by consuming some poisonous substance. The deceased had served the Army.

SI booked for taking bribe
: SI Narotam Kumar has been booked for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. SSP Anita Punj said SI Narotam Kumar took Rs 10,000 from one Karamjit Singh, resident of Rihali village. He threatened Karamjit that he would implicate him in a false case under the NDPS Act if he did not pay him the money.

Girl kidnapped: Police has booked Anjali, alias Billi, under Sections 362, 366A and 34 of the IPC. On the complaint of Daulat Ram, a resident of Hakia Dholeshah in Hariana. According to the police, Daulat Ram alleged that Anjali and her father Satpal had abducted his granddaughter Anita (14), while she was returning from a tailorís shop in Sikri Mohalla on August 2.

Mother son held : The police arrested a mother and her son, residents of Denowal Khurd on Saturday night. The police also seized 10 and 15 gram smack from them respectively. According to the police, they have been identified as Gurbax Kaur and Balbir Singh.

Booked: The Mehna police has registered a case of murder against Jaswinder Kaur, a resident of Dhurkot Charat Singh village, on the charges of killing her husband and hiding his body. The crime came to light when Chhinder Singh, who had recently purchased a house from Jaswinder Kaur, noticed something buried in his courtyard. The police found that body was of Iqbal Singh, husband of Jaswinder. 

Land grab bid
: Local police today foiled a land grabbing bid by three members of a mafia gang. They were trying to forcibly take possession of a 36 marla land near local Chahal Nagar. A case has been registered under section 447/511/323/506 of the IPC against the accused, Charanjit Singh, Himmat Singh and Paramjit Singh Pamma.

Smack seized: Jora Ram of Dhuleta village was arrested with six grams of smack on Sunday. Meanwhile, police recovered a Kamanidar knife from a person, identified as Hari Krishan. 

Minors abducted : Police on Sunday booked a migrant labourer Anil Pandey and Manu, a woman of Bhularai village here, on the charges of the abduction of two minor girls from their localities. No arrests have been made so far. 



Medical camp
: A free health check-up camp was organised for parents and students of Chaman Lal DAV Senior Public School, Sector 11, here on Sunday. The camp was organised by Health Aid Medicare. Around 600 persons got free consultation at the camp.



One killed: The driver of a tempo, which was loaded with coca-cola, was killed on the spot when a speeding truck (HP 22- 5912) hit it at Kularoo village on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Ashwani Kumar. The truck driver Rashid Muhammad was admitted at Ghumarwin civil hospital in an injured condition. Another boy traveling in the truck escaped with minor injuries. The police registered a case after a postmortem examination.

Hit-and-run case : Vishal Rajput of Nawan Shehar in Punjab was killed when a speeding vehicle suddenly hit him and ran away on Saturday. He was rushed to the Ghumarwin civil hospital by his friends but he was declared brought dead. The vehicle had not yet been traced. The police has registered a case. 

One killed: Sukhram was killed on Saturday when he accidently slipped from a height of about 25 feet and fell in the Ali Khud at Jabbal. He had gone out to answer the call of nature when the incident took place. He was a store chowkidar working in the PWD. The police registered a case after the postmortem. 

Body found: The police has recovered the body of Dinesh Kumar (14 ) from the Gobind Sagar at Luhanu Ghat on Sunday. He had gone missing on July 29. The family had registered an FIR at Dehar police chowki.

Eve-teasing: Judicial Magistrate First Class Praveen Chauhan at Ghumarwin on Sunday sentenced Beli Ram of Patta Ranauttan village for allegedly teasing a village woman. He was sentenced to one-year simple imprisonment along with an additional fine of Rs 500. In case of default in payment of fine, he would have to undergo imprisonment for another two months.
