Shivalik School in last four

The league match between CCA-GNPS Academy and Shivalik Public School (SPS), Sector-41, today ended in a tie. With this, Shivalik Public School managed to book berth in the last four matches of the Inter-Academy (U-19) Invitational Cricket Tournament. The tournament is being organised at the grounds of St Stephen's School, Sector 45, here.

Winning the toss, Shivalik Public School team opted to field first. Shubham’s valuable knock of 28 runs and Priyansh’s unbeaten knock of 30 runs were instrumental in enabling CCA-GNPS to muster a respectable total of 80 runs at the cost of four wickets in stipulated 25 overs.

On the other hand, for SPS, Shubham, Abhimanyu and Mandeep claimed one wicket each.

In reply, SPS had a good start with their openers compiling 22 runs. However, the situation was no different for them too as their wickets too fell constantly.

CCA-GNPS’s Priyanshu (4 for 18) and Harpreet (3 for 10), were the bowlers who proved to be wreckers-in-chief for the SPS batsmen. Ultimately, SPS ended the innings with the scoreboard reading 80.

Tomorrow’s fixtures: First semifinal: CCA-GNPS vs St Soldier's, Panchkula, 9 am and DPACA vs SPS-41, 2 am.



Gurkirat to lead Chandigarh

Chandigarh, August 14
Gurkirat Singh has been appointed skipper of the Chandigarh team for the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for U-22. The match will be held at DAV SSS, Sector 8, tomorrow.

Other players: Siddharth Kaul, Siddharth Sharma, Akashdeep, Naresh Gogian, Harpreet Singh, Satnam Singh, Gaurav Gambhir, Sarul Kanwar, Anupam Gambhir, Lucky, Karanvir, Simrat Bawa and Karan Sharma. — TNS



CWHA office-bearers

Following have been appointed the office-bearers of the Chandigarh Women Hockey Association:

K. Atma Ram — Patron in chief; H. Carver, S.S. Randhawa and Kulwant Singh Bhullar — vice-presidents; Jasbir Singh Bajwa - honorary secretary; Satinder Walia and Bimal Prabhagga (former international players) — joint secretaries; Jeet Randhawa — treasurer; Olympian Sukhbir Grewal and Nisha Sharma — technical advisors and Advocate Jasbir Singh — legal advisor.

While annoucing the names of the office-bearers, president of the association Chanchal Randhawa assured that the CWHA would have a new look and her team would make all efforts to organise various national competitions in the coming days.

She said the CWHA was all set to persuade all educational institutions of girls in the UT to prepare a girls’ hockey team.



DAV-10 maul SGGS-26

Chandigarh, August 14
DAV College-10, thrashed SGGS College-26, by 8-3 in a league match of the Panjab University Inter-College Baseball (Men) Tournament. The tournament is being conducted on the PU campus.

In another league match, SCD Government College, Ludhiana, pip GGD SD College-32, by 3-2.

Meanwhile, in the last match of the day, SCD Government College cornered glory by beating DAV College-10, by 9-6. — TNS
