Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said villages of martyrs would be developed as model villages. Besides, the families of the martyrs would be adequately compensated.

It was a poor show at Isru this time with much less people turning up at the fair as compared to the previous years. The local shopkeepers said, the participation of the public at the fair this time was so low that it reminded one of the dark days of militancy when not many people used to venture out.

Dullo: Use of force on deras won’t do
Isru (Ludhiana), August 15
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Shamsher Singh Dullo today warned the Shiromani Akali Dal against "playing with fire" by provoking people on the Dera Sacha Sauda issue. Instead, the SAD should ask the SGPC to counter the challenge posed by deras. Addressing a party conference here today to mark the martyrdom day of Master Karnail Singh Isru, Dullo said instead of a confrontation, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should ask the SGPC to carry out dharam prachar.

Noted Punjabi poet Lal Singh Dill, who died at DMC, Ludhiana, yesterday, was cremated here today. Several writers, journalists, politicians and representatives of the various trade unions attended the funeral of the poet.

Two women held for youth’s murder
Khanna, August 15
The Khanna police has claimed to have arrested two women involved in the murder of a youth whose dismembered body was recovered from a tank in a house in Machhiwara. The youth, Gurvinder Singh, reportedly went missing on July 21.

Press reporter and cops booked for misbehaving
Jagraon, August 15
The local police took action against the cops on a telephonic call. After taking the required statements a case was registered under Sections 341, 323, 354 506, 148, 149 of the IPC at Raikot on Wednesday.
