Medico with painterly moorings
Ludhiana, August 17 The chief guest on the occasion, Dr G.S. Wander, chief cardiologist, Hero DMC Hospital, inaugurated the exhibition. He appreciated the work of the young artist and said a doctor with a painting brush in her hand was a rare sight. Deepmala said, “I had a passion for colours right from my childhood, but I took to painting when I was in Class VI. I prefer oil as the medium of my expression as it gives a rich look to the finished painting. Furthermore, I find the fluid beauty of nature being represented in women, so I love portraying women on canvas.” Hira Lal Jain, president, managing committee of the college, said the college always provided a nurturing ground for young and budding artists. Dr R. Kochhar, principal of the college, said Deepmala was a very fine artist. Dr Deepinder Singh, associate professor and organiser of the exhibition, said art was a true expression of one’s soul and artists were blessed people. He said he always found “artists more close to God”. Among eminent personalities, Jasbir Singh, Kamaljit, Harpreet, Babli Singh, Ravi Kochhar were present on the occasion. |
Women cricket trials today
Ludhiana, August 17 According to association honorary general secretary, Vinod Chitkara, the selected players will represent Ludhiana in the Punjab State Inter-District Women’s Cricket Tournament to be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association from mid September. — OC |
Hockey tourney
Ludhiana, August 17 The tournament will be held for both boys and girls in the age group 14 to 19 years. Interested schools are required to confirm their entries with the organisers by August 20. |
