On Sunday night, 26-year-old Karamjit travelling on his motor cycle was hit by a tractor on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway. He died on the spot. His body lay on the road for over 30 minutes before a police jeep reached the site.

Truck owner found dead

A 40-year-old truck owner was found dead in his truck at the Sanetta petrol station this morning, with blood oozing from the nose. No external injuries were found on the body.

Army cyclists set national record
Chandigarh, August 20
Cyclists from the Army's Electronics and Mechanical Engineers have set a new record by pedalling from Leh (Ladakh) to Kanyakumari in 18 days. The 15-member team was flagged off on July 30 from Leh at 5.30 a.m. They reached Kanyakumari at 11.30 p.m. on August 17, a statement issued here said.

23-yr-old killed as truck hits scooter
Chandigarh, August 20
A 23-year-old civil engineer lost his life, while two of his colleagues were seriously hurt, when a truck hit the scooter they were riding on near the Transport Light Point in Sector 26, here, past mid night. The injured, all in their early 20s, were rushed to the PGI, where Neeraj, who belonged to Pinjore, succumbed to his injuries.

The police today released sketch of Ali Hassan, who managed to give a slip to police personnel at the Sector 22 police post on Saturday. He was booked in a case of attempt to steal and for breaking into a shop. The in-charge of the Sector 22 police post sub-inspector Charanjit Singh told TNS that a sketch of Hassan, who belonged to Malda district in West Bengal, had been prepared and they had also procured a photograph of his accomplice Mohammad Sarfaraz, alias Ayub.

Barber, his friend stab man, arrested
Chandigarh, August 20
Following a minor altercation, a barber and his friend allegedly stabbed a resident of the Industrial Area with a pair of scissors outside his residence yesterday. The police arrested Javed, a barber and resident of Hallo Majra, and Mohammad Yameen of Sector 29 on allegations of causing injuries and criminal intimidation.

The medical superintendent of the General Hospital, Sector 6, Dr V.K. Bansal, gave a written complaint to the police about the kidnapping attempt by an outsider in the maternity ward of the hospital.

The Energy Research Centre celebrated “Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Divas” at ICSSR Complex, Panjab Unviersity, today to create mass awareness and encourage people to adopt renewable energy dependent appliances. Joint Director Sports Chandigarh Administration JPS Sidhu today categorically denied the overage of eight players of the Chandigarh Hockey Academy, here today. A panel of doctors appointed by the organising committee of the ongoing sixth SN Vohra Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament for under-14 had yesterday found the players overaged.
