BATHINDA
AWWA ends:
A week-long celebrations held in the local military station, to mark the AWWA Day, concluded on Saturday with the distribution of prizes to the winners of different competitions organised during the function. Rattandeep Brar, president, Chetak, AWWA, distributed the prizes. About 400 Army families participated in the celebrations. 

BARNALA
Polio drops given:
As many as 3,951 children below five years old, belonging to migrant labours of UP and Bihar, were administered polio drops in a three-day pulse polio programme. Civil surgeon Balbeer Singh said the drive was from August 23 to 25. 

Rally held: About 250 youths, decorated in beautiful, coloured headgears, started on a motorcycle march from Barnala to Amritsar on Saturday to encourage the wearing of the headgear. Tamil Nadu Governor Surjeet Singh Barnala and jathedar, Damdama Sahib,Baldev Singh Nadgarh jointly flagged off the march. 

FARIDKOT
Murdered:
Darshan Singh(40) of Dhilwan Kalan village of this district was allegedly murdered by Massa Singh of the same village on August 19 for Rs 15,000. The body was found on the banks of Dhaipi distributary near Dhilwan Kalan village on Thursday. L. K. Yadav, SSP, said Darshan, who was a moneylender, had gone to meet Massa Singh to recover a loan of Rs 15,000. He said Massa Singh was taken into custody, who confessed to the crime. A case had been registered.

HOSHIARPUR
Speedy justice:
Punjab and Haryana High Court judges Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice Kamaljit Singh Grewal, along with District and Sessions Judge G.K. Rai, deputy commissioner D.K. Tiwari and SSP, Hoshiarpur, Anita Punj had a preliminary visit around the area of Talwara township on Saturday to provide speedy justice to people of remote areas of this district through a court on wheels. Both judges will submit their findings to the authorities concerned and the final decision will be taken in October. 

Jalandhar
Major fire in rubber factory:
A massive fire broke out at Kohinoor Rubber Mills at Basti Bawa Khel here today. The fire spread fast causing damage to rubber goods. Ten fire engines were rushed to the spot. Firemen managed to check its spread to adjoining factories. No loss of life or injury was reported. The cause of fire could not be ascertained. 

Samrala
Camp:
A five day Tritya Sopan Scout and Guide camp concluded at local Govt Senior Secondary School on Saturday. About 81 scouts of different Government schools participated in it under the guidance of training incharge Jagroopjit Singh Shahi and lecturer Niranjan Kumar. During the camp, these scouts were trained to adopt according to circumstances keeping their morale up.

Field Day: National Fertilizers Limited celebrated field day at Pal Mainn village on Saturday. Dr J.S. Chandi, deputy director, KVK Samrala, the chief guest while addressing the farmers told them the benefits of scientific way of farming and how to decrease the input in different crops. Dr Parminder Kaur, asstt professsor agonomy KVK Samrala tipped the farmers to grow recommended varieties and benefit of soil and water testing.

Tarn Taran
Robbers held:
The Goindwal police busted a gang of robbers and arrested four of its members, recovering eight stolen mobiles sets and two motor bikes from them. The police revealed on Saturday that a police party on a special tip-off raided a garden of Fatehbad, 18 kilometers from here, and succeeded to arrest four members while the rest managed to run away. The arrested members have been identified as Bikramjit Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Balbir Singh and Amrik Singh while the absconding were Satnam Singh, Baljit Singh, Sonu and Karamjit Singh. All the gang members are the residents of Jandiala Guru. Besides mobile sets,two motor bikes have also been recovered. A case has been registered.

BILASPUR
No immediate relief:
BJP state spokesman and Kot Kehloor constituency leader Randhir Sharma has charged that though several gram punchayat areas of Kot kehloor namely Nakrana, Janali, Kharkadi, Saloa, Makadi, Bhakra, Sikroha, Dhuni Panjail, Deoth, Rajpura and Jukhala had been seriously affected by recent heavy rains, cloud bursts and flash floods, yet Kot Kehloor MLA and forest minister Ramlal Thakur, had not bothered to visit these areas to provide immediate relief to suffering families.

NAHAN
Elected:
Sanjeev Awasthi, senior journalist of Renuka, was elected district president of the Sirmaur Union of Journalists’on Friday. Yoginder Kapila was elected as the district advisor and Ramesh Paharia as the joint secretary of the union. They demanded that the state government should give social, financial and professional security to journalists working in the state. 

SHIMLA
Rifle Association:
A general body meeting of the Himachal Pradesh State Rifle Association will be held at Ghumar in Kangra district on September 23. Vice-president of the HP State Rifle Association Ishwar Rohal said a meeting of the general house would also be convened for all life members of the association on the same day.
