Baby reunited with parents

Karnal, September 2
After a 24-hour ordeal, an eight-day-old boy was today reunited with his parents from whom he was separated following the annulment of their marriage by a village panchayat because they shared the same lineage.

The boy was recovered from a woman in the Nissing area of Oindh village and was sent for medical examination at the civil hospital here accompanied by his father Pawan, SSP, Karnal, A.S. Chawla told PTI.

He said the child was handed over to the woman yesterday by panchayat members soon after it ordered the couple’s separation.

The SSP said the woman was not arrested as she had no links with the panchayat members who took the child away from his parents.

The police leveled charges of kidnapping and criminal intimidation against six persons in connection with the boy’s separation from his parents. A case was registered under Sections 363, 342 and 506 of the IPC but no arrests were made. — PTI
