SHO suspended: Station house officer (city) Kirpal Singh has been suspended for not obeying the orders of IG (border range), Amritsar, R.P. Meena, informed Batala SSP R.N. Dhoke here today. Under a special drive to catch proclaimed offenders, wanted in 30 cases, in Batala, IG Meena gave Kirpal Singh nine days (July 23 to 31, 2007) to arrest these offenders. But the SHO-cum-inspector did
not capture the offenders
and hence was suspended, said Dhoke.
4 arrested: In separate incidents,the police has arrested four persons on charges of drug peddling and recovered a large quantity of drugs and psychotropic substances from their custody. SSP Dinesh Pratap said Jarnail Singh, alias Jally, was arrested from Hussaniwala village close to the Indo-Pakistan border when he was going to deliver a consignment of drugs to consumers. He said Sunil Kumar and Pawan Kumar were arrested from Abohar.Another woman, Joginder Kaur was also arrested with 7 kg poppy husk.
CA attacked: Two unidentified youths on Tuesday attacked a CA, Atul Kumar, son of Yash Pal Goyal, when he was going to Chandigarh by his car. They beat up Atul mercilessly and fled from the scene with the key of his car. The police has registered a case. Atul was admitted to the local Civil Hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.
Booked: Buggar Singh of Bambiha Bhai village alleged that his daughter was abducted and raped by Armyman Jasbir Singh.The Bagha Purana police station registered a case of abduction and rape against Jasbir.The complainant stated that Jasbir, who came on leave a few days ago, entered his house surreptitiously on the intervening night of September 2 and 3 and abducted his daughter. He claimed that he committed the crime in his captivity.
2 die as bike rams into trailer: Two unidentified youths were killed on the spot when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a tractor-trailer on the national highway near Phillaur on Tuesday night. DSP Harpreet Singh Benepal said the deceased have been identified as Anuj Kumar (22), owner of a mobile repair shop and Dhiraj Kumar (26), a owner of a sweetmeat shop, both residents of Phillaur. The victims were returning from Gaushala Gopal Dham, but their motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer near Sutlej Classic hotel.
