Boy missing from lockup; ASI suspended

The Ludhiana(rural) police this evening suspended and booked an ASI posted as in charge of the Kaunke Kalan police post on the charge of illegally confining a Dalit teenager to illegal confinement and for dereliction of duty, leading to the boy”s disappearance from police custody.

Bus stand work at snail’s pace

It’s been one-and-a-half years since construction began at the Ludhiana Bus Stand but it is nowhere near completion. This has caused a lot of harassment to the residents who have been inconvenienced due to the delay.

Transport minister Master Mohan Lal said this during a seminar organised by Desh Bhagat Institute of Management and Computer Sciences, Mandi Gobindgarh, on Tuesday, on ‘Building World Class Educational Institutes’. The minister, who was the chief guest, released a souvenir on the occasion.

Social worker dead

Maghar Singh (67), social worker and brother of Harpal Singh Dhillon, former chairman of the Arhtiya association, Samrala, was cremated at Shamgarh village on Wednesday. He died last evening in DMC, Ludhiana, due to heart failure.

STEPS to help Class X students

Bank told to compensate aggrieved customer

The District Consumer Forum has directed the ICICI bank to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation to a consumer, who faced unnecessary harassment as the bank officials failed to credit interest in his account, well in time. The forum termed the services of the bank to be deficient in this case.

Punjabi book released
Ludhiana, September 5
Dwelling upon various aspects of life, a Punjabi book ‘Jindagi di taash’’ authored by a UK-based Punjabi writer Ranjit Singh Rana, was released today at a function organised at the Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Vocational Studies. The book is a compilation of select writings of Rana’s articles published in ‘Sahib’,an international Punjabi magazine being published from Birmingham.

Doctors recommend ‘practically possible’ diet restrictions

More than 250 patients were examined at a free diabetes detection camp organised by local branch of National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) under its community service project at Shivpuri, here, yesterday. The doctors and supporting staff at the camp checked blood pressure and conducted urine examination on some 150 patients detected with higher blood sugar level.
