Kuldip Singh, a farmer-cum-financier of Rayian village, near Bhaini Sahib, who was reportedly under a debt of over Rs 2 crore, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his car near the Pakhowal road bridge this morning.

In yet another broad daylight crime in the city, a youth stole a bag containing Rs 2.50 lakh in Miller Gunj while two motorcycle-borne youths injured and looted Rs 66,000 from an employee of a BSNL distributor in Vikas Nagar.

Teacher’s son nabbed; let off

A series of thefts on the campus of Punjab Agricultural University for the last six months seemed to have been solved when the son of a faculty member, an MBA student and a suspected drug addict, was allegedly caught thieving by residents on September 22 late in the night.

Woman in the net with 105 gm smack

The Dehlon police has arrested a woman courier, who supplied drugs to local dealers of the town and surrounding villages. As much as 105 gm of smack worth Rs 60,000 was seized from her possession.

Man arrested with Rs 1.46 lakh fake currency
Jagraon, September 24
The local police with the arrest of one person out of two, claimed to have busted a gang, dealing in fake Indian currency. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, SSP, Ludhiana (rural), said the police nabbed Krishan Kumar of New Salem Tabri, Ludhiana.

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Gadvasu) has identified three villages in Punjab which will be developed as model dairy villages. A proposal to this regard has already been sent to the Punjab government following a visit by Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, recently.

Onion, veggies’ price likely to go down soon
Ludhiana, September 24
Onion prices have shot up once again and touched Rs 25 per kilogram in city markets due to insufficient supply. Traders, however, are expecting the effect to mollify within this week with the beginning of 'shraadhs'. While prices of most vegetables remained on the downward side, onions and green peas touched a high.
"Onion is an essential item in every kitchen. But prices have been on the higher side only for over a month now. I hope the rates would decrease in the coming days," said Reena Verma, a Civil Lines resident.

DM advises farmers to harvest paddy on maturity

Following reports about immature and unripe paddy being harvested by farmers, District magistrate Sumer Singh Gurjar has imposed a ban on the operation of harvesting combines from 7 PM to 10 AM for the harvesting of paddy.

Kulwinder Kinda, a kabaddi player of Kakrala village, was honoured at Ganga Filling Station, Mandera, near here by prominent persons of Khamano area. He was honoured after his return from successful tour of Canada, where he expressed his skills in kabaddi and was adjudged best stopper in three  kabaddi cups.

Many players have been selected for admission with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) training centre here at the multipurpose sports complex, near Guru Nanak stadium. The trials were held last month for the induction in the disciplines of judo, volleyball, handball, basketball and athletics.
