Vigilante Justice
Kidnappers lynched in Bihar

Bettiah (Bihar), October 7
In yet another instance of vigilante justice, two kidnappers of the son of a businessman were beaten to death by angry residents at Mahnagani village in Biharís West Champaran district today.

District Superintendent of Police Bachhu Singh Meena said the lynching took place this morning when two persons riding on a motorcycle, who were escaping after kidnapping Kanchan Kumar, 15-year-old son of jeweller Brigesh Kumar, were overpowered by villagers after a hot chase.

Meena said the villagers clobbered the youths with sticks leading to their death on the spot. They also burnt their motorcycle.

The victims were yet to be identified but local people said they belonged to Kathia Mathia village in the district, the SP said.

The incident came close on the heels of lynching of two persons in Patna on suspicion of being robbers on September 21 and slaying of 10 suspected thieves in Vaishali district two days later.

A mob had gouged out the eyes of three young men who had snatched away a motorcycle in Nawada district on September 9. A youth, who had snatched a gold chain from a woman, was severely beaten up by a mob, tied to a motorcycle and dragged along the road by the police at Nathnagar in Bhagalpur district on August 28. ó PTI
