Bid to smuggle drugs into jail
450 tablets found in vegetable

The jail superintendent shows a vegetable root that was used to smuggle drugs into Central Jail in Ludhiana on Thursday. Alert staff of Central Jail today foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs into the jail. As many as 450 intoxicating tablets were found hidden inside “zimikand”.

Panchayat hands over rape accused to police

Narinder Singh (22), who had allegedly raped his five-year-old niece, was today handed over to the police by the panchayat of his native Rauni village.

Two cops suspended
Khanna, October 11
A constable and a home guard were today placed under suspension for torturing a man while in detention in the Sadar police station on October 7.

7 more cases of dengue
Ludhiana, October 11
Seven fresh cases of dengue have been admitted to hospitals. Two confirmed cases were admitted to the CMCH, three to Guru Teg Bahadur Charitable Hospital and one to the DMCH.

The excise and taxation department has increased the registration fee for VAT from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000, which will discourage new assesses from getting themselves registered, taxation young lawyers association said here today.

Fake documents used for mobile connection

The police has booked an unknown person for using someone else’s identity and documents to take a mobile connection. The complainant, Boota Ram of Basant Nagar, has alleged that someone had prepared false documents in his name and taken a mobile connection. A case has been registered. No arrest has been made so far.

Gang of five busted
Ludhiana, October 11
Just a few hours after seven crime incidents, involving snatching and murders of several persons, the police today claimed to have solved all the cases by busting a gang of five gangsters here today.

Man fires at house
Ludhiana, October 11
Tension prevailed in the sector 40 area as some unknown person fired a bullet shot at house window and escaped. No one was injured in the incident. The apartment belongs to Rajan Kumar, who is a resident of MIG flats.

The department of ophthalmology at Christian Medical College and Hospital organised a free pediatric eye check-up camp in which 600 children got their eyes examined.
