Hospitals’ disaster skills put to test

The bomb blast that claimed six lives and injured about 36 persons in Shingar Cinema has once again put to test the level of preparedness in city hospitals to handle such massive tragedies.

The Payal police claims to have arrested a migrant labourer who had been supplying drugs and narcotics to local peddlers. Thirtyfive gm of smack was seized from him.

He was unlucky in life as well as in death. Thirteen- year-old Hari Pal, the youngest victim of Shingaar tragedy, died in the most barbaric way and when he was born, his mother had died.

Verdict on Sandhu's bail on Oct 19

Additional sessions judge Gurbir Singh today reserved the orders on the regular bail application filed by Punjab’s former additional advocate-general Harpreet Sandhu, a co-accused in the multi-crore city centre scam, for October 19.

The 29th International Prof Mohan Singh Yadgari Sabhiacharak Mela is being organised on October 18 at the Punjabi Virasat Bhawan, Palam Vihar, Pakhowal road. The mela is being organised by the Prof Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation, Ludhiana. Addressing a press conference here today, Jagdev Singh Jassowal said the mela focuses on Punjabi culture.

Journalist booked for stealing motor

The Payal police has booked two persons, including a journalist of vernacular newspaper, under Section 457, 380, 411 and 506 of the IPC, for allegedly stealing a monoblock electric motor by entering a tubewell room of a farmer of Landa.

Principal thrashes student for exchanging seat

The management and staff of a public high school at Sudhar village was taken aback when parents of a student, who was allegedly beaten up by the principal of the school yesterday, staged a protest in front of the school. However, the matter was resolved with the intervention of the police and social leaders of the area.

Dance, debate mark second day

The Panjab University Diamond Jubilee Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival, which is being held at SCD College, entered the second day today. The morning session was presided over by Prof Rajinder Bhandari, state president, BJP, and fellow of Panjab University, Chandigarh.The function started with the lighting of ceremonial a lamp by the chief guest, along with other dignitaries.

Everest boys champs

The sports wing of the Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, Ludhiana, emerged winners in the Punjab State Schools Basketball Championship for boys (u-19) held from October 11 to 15 at Kotkpura.

Bodybuilding championship on Oct 22
Ludhiana, October 16
The Punjab Bodybuilding Championship in the junior and senior section will be held on the PAP campus, Jalandhar, on October 22. Competition in the under 21 and above 21 years of age groups will be conducted in this meet.

Yokozuna in city on Oct 27
Ludhiana, October 16
The wrestling legend, Yokozuna, will be the star attraction in the world star wrestling championship “India vs Rest of World- War of Legends” scheduled to be held in Punjab from October 26 to 28. Yokozuna, from Japan, is considered to be the world’s largest athlete.
