Rizwanur Death
CBI interrogates IG Islam

Kolkata, November 5
CBI officers today interrogated IG (enforcement branch) Nazrul Islam in connection with the mysterious death of computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rahman.

A three-member team of the CBI interrogated Nazrul at his office at Bhawani Bhawan here.

Nazrul had earlier that he was a witness to the alleged threats by officers of the Kolkata police to Sadiq, one of the witnesses to the marriage of Rizwanur and Priyanaka Todi, daughter of industrialist Ashok Todi.

“Sadiq came to me because he was afraid that either the police or the Todis might kill him. When he was sitting in my room, Krishnendu Das, a sub-inspector of the anti-rowdy section of the detective department, threatened him over phone,” Nazrul had said to the media earlier.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Government today said the mobile phone of Rizwanur Rahman was not tapped even as CBI continued investigation into his death.

While Rizwanur’s family alleged that the youth, dogged by threats and fear, found his mobile tapped, home secretary Prasad Ranjan Ray asserted there was no such evidence. “I myself has checked the call list of Rizwanur’s mobile. Nothing has been found to suggest that the phone was tapped,” he told reporters.

Earlier, the CID of the state police had conducted an investigation into Rizwanur’s death and went through the call list of his mobile. — PTI
