Talent shows shouldn’t create cultural divide: Mahadevan

Renowned singer Shankar Mahadevan feels that television channels should not use talent hunt shows to create cultural divide among people. “These shows are a good medium to find talent, but they indulge in a lot of publicity stunts, which are a darker side to them,” said Mahadevan, who was in city for his first live show here along with Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa.

He fought insurgency but can’t battle tenant
Ludhiana, November 14
A brigadier, who is fighting insurgency in Kashmir, is forced to fight a battle of sorts for removing a tenant from his house in Sarabha Nagar, even after the lease period expired in September. Brig D.P.S. Sandhu, posted as Deputy GO, Doda, who retires in February, had issued a notice to his tenant to vacate the house.

National award for two NGOs
Ludhiana, November 14
Sat Paul Mittal National Award for outstanding service to humanity was presented to The Banyan, Chennai, and D.R. Mehta, Jaipur. The Banyan has rehabilitated and rescued around 1,800 mentally ill women and has re-united 850 of them to their families.

City boy gets bravery award

City boy Ilamjot Singh, alias Harry, was given a bravery award by the Punjab Child Welfare Council in Chandigarh today. A student of Class X in GNPS, Harry received the award from the Governor, Punjab, Gen J.F. Rodrigues.

Pak national gets 3 years in spying case
Ludhiana, November 14
A Pak national, Furhat Ali, a resident of Namit Colony, Faisalabad, Pakistan, has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for three years on the charge of spying in India. He had gained access to the Baddowal Army area by posing as an electrician. He had been working there as a labourer.

A special initiative of Christian Medical College and Hospital, the Juvenile Diabetic Club has been providing not just treatment but a friendly support system to children suffering from diabetes for the last four years since its inception.
