A 60-year-old widow sustained a fracture on her hand after she was allegedly beaten up by the son of a Congressman. Nisha Kaushal, a resident of Nawa Mohalla and mother of Sameer Kumar, a journalist with City Cable, was rushed to the civil hospital where her condition is said to be stable.

The deputy speaker of Punjab assembly, Sat Pal Gosain, today formally launched the mop up pulse polio campaign in the district by giving polio drops to an infant at the civil hospital here. Civil surgeon Sat Pal Sharma, district vaccination officer Manjit Kaur and SMO of the hospital, Dr Kuldip Kaur Sahni, were also present. Dr Sat Pal Sharma later inaugurated polio booths set up here. He said the mop up polio drive was being organised in the wake of a polio case having been detected in Moga district.
