‘Interactions’ unhealthy: Psychologists
Ludhiana, December 15
Openly violating the Supreme Court’s direction, city schools are busy interviewing children for admitting them to the nursery and kindergarten classes. Despite the ban, most of the schools, particularly the more sought after ones, are conducting these interviews, which they term as “interactions” with parents of the wards here.

Kartar Singh, a resident of Daad village here and an elderly relative of BIS Chahal, former media adviser to Capt Amarinder Singh, is on bail in a land-grab case registered against him in June this year. But for all practical purposes, it was a "dead" Kartar Singh who was booked, arrested and put under trial all these months.

Industry exempted from seeking clearance
Ludhiana, December 15
The state government has exempted industrial units from obtaining clearance from the Site Appraisal Committee. The exemption, applicable on setting up of new units and for the expansion of existing ones, is applicable in designated areas of the Focal Point and the industrial estates.

Soon, instant money transfer at post offices
Ludhiana, December 15
City post offices would soon provide instant transfer of money. Beginning next month one would only have to withdraw the money from a post office that a person had received from some other station. This facility, it is expected would come as handy for the migrant labourers working in the local industrial units.

Official papers aren’t enough for ‘84-riot victim
Meeting with CM remains futile

Official papers aren't proof of being a riot victim for Joginder Singh, a 72-year-old cancer patient living in the city since 1995. He was shot at in the face in Aligarh during the 1984 riots following assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, where he was working in the deputy commissioner’s office.

City to be litter-free soon
Ludhiana, December 15
The city is all set to have bins if an individual’s effort bears fruit. Sanjiv Puri,a local businessman, has started a campaign by roping in office-bearers of welfare societies, officials of the municipal corporation, the Improvement Trust and a local legislator to put up bins in different parts of the city to take care of the litter.

Drug peddler held
Mandi Ahmedgarh, December 15
The Anti-Narcotic Cell of the Ludhiana (Rural) district police nabbed a drug peddler from the Rode level crossing in the Jagraon area and seized 1 kg opium from his possession today.

Charandas Chor, a play scripted by Habib Tanveer, was organised by Spic Macay at Ramgharia Girls College here today. Ranjodh Singh, president of the Ramgharia Educational Council, lit inaugural lamp.

Daljeet Singh Shabi was elected president of the Samrala Bar Association by just one vote. About 53 out of 58 advocated had cast their votes. Daljeet Shahi secured 27 votes whereas Anil Gupta got 26 votes and win the election.

Though the “Chak De India” actors have earned laurels all over the country and even abroad for their reel life portrayal of legendary hockey players who won Gold medal in the 2002 Commonwealth games held in Manchester but the real icons Manjinder Kaur, Sita Gosain, Suman Bala, Amandeep Kaur, KSH Suraj Lata Davi and Sabba Anjum, who graced the Pirthipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium, PAU went unnoticed.

Govt will honour NRIs for promoting sports: Badal
