Arshdeep 9-yr-old kidney patient needs help

Arshdeep (9), son of Jagtar Singh is suffering from a kidney failure. He is the only brother of four sisters. Resident of Bhammi Pura Kalan, in Jagraon subdivision, this child is presently being admitted to the PGI, Chandigarh, for kidney transplant. But for, Jagtar Singh, a farm worker, and his family, it is difficult to meet the huge expenses required for undergoing transplant.

Jagjit Singh breaks down during award cermony

It was a catharsis not only for Ludhianvis but also for renowned singer Jagjit Singh, who gracefully handled his breaking down to tears at mention of his son, who died long ago, on one hand and transcending human spirits to emotional bliss, on the other. The occasion was the live concert at Guru Nanak Bhavan on Saturday night under the aegis of the Harpal Tiwana Foundation.

Ahmedgarh municipal councillor, Chitrlekha (50), wife of The Tribune correspondent Mahesh Sharma, died here yesterday evening. She was suffering from cancer for the past few months. She was also the director of the Janta College for Women. She is survived by her son and daughter. She was cremated at the Ram Bagh cremation ground today.

Former sarpanch, six others booked

The Sidhwan Bet police claimed to have recovered 200 bags containing 100 quintal of stolen rice from Tata 407 (No. PB-10U-9888) from Gorsian Kadar Baksh area while being taken for depot and arrested two of its occupants Kulwant Singh of Rauwal and Raju, a migrant laborer of Bihar.

Worried over intense spraying of pesticides on vegetables and fruits available in the market, health savvy locals, who can afford to have their own kitchen gardens, have started maintaining for the sake of eating fresh vegetables.

Govt teachers to undergo training

An eight-day teachers’ training programme for government school teachers would be conducted in the 19 blocks of the district from December 24. This was disclosed by principal, Government In-service Training Centre (GITC), Gurdeep Kaur, here yesterday.

“Breastfeeding can check high mortality in babies”

The Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI), the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN - Asia) and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) jointly hosted the fourth “South Asia Breastfeeding Partners Forum” in collaboration with the union ministry of women and child development, the Planning Commission of India and the UNICEF at New Delhi recently.

Gurdas Mann’s fans go berserk

It was absolute chaos at Guru Nanak Stadium when Gurdas Mann, a leading Punjabi singer, entered the venue of the Kabaddi tournament, which concluded here today. The entire crowd scrambled for a vantage position before the temporary stage where the singer was scheduled to perform in the evening.
