Ropar, April 9 The deputy commissioner Baldeo Purushartha conducted a meeting with members of Bar Association over the issue. President of the association, Sarabjit Singh said matter would soon be solved by tomorrow with some vacant land in complex being acceded to the lawyers for chambers. Meanwhile, SAD leader Kiranvir Singh Kang today visited the complex to attend some court proceedings. His vehicle was allowed to go inside the complex and lawyers resented to it. Kang had a word with lawyers and assured them support. On April 1 a new parking lot in district administrative complex, adjacent to SSP's office, was inaugurated. In order to manage the problem of over crowded administrative complex, the district administration had banned entries of all vehicles. Cops had been deputed at each gate for this purpose and stopped lawyers also from entering the complex. Lawyers had been agitating against this move for the past one week.
Online psychometric test for CIIS students
Fatehgarh Sahib, April 9 Elaborating upon the procedure and technique followed during the aptitude test Lt Gen (Retd) K.S. Mann, advisor, CIIS said online psychometric test had been uniquely devised to assessing the intelligence, personality and interest factor. The aptitude test, vehemently attended by hundreds of students, was followed by a career counseling session by international experts from CIIS' international faculty who dwelt upon the skill of resume writing and value of soft skills. Miriam Hayward and Bruce Oro from CIIS international faculty interacted with students one on one and handed down tips on choosing right career based upon the outcome of aptitude test. Fun games and quiz followed the tests as games like seven up and seven down, dropping the glass, ring throw, tambola and quiz were thoroughly enjoyed by students. |

Double Murder Case
Kharar, April 9 SHO Kharar city Manjit Singh said Bhupinder's brothers, Rajinder Singh, Kulwinder Singh and Palwinder Singh from Dubali, near Sohana were called. Rajinder Singh is ex-sarpanch of Dubali village. Also Bhupinder's wife Jaswinder's sister Pavittar Kaur was called from Panchkula. Bhupinder had shot himself on Tuesday before killing his wife and son over the suspected infidelity of former. Following the ghastly incident, the police had locked the house and deputed a cop. Today the family's relatives were summoned and a list of all belongings in the house was handed over to them. "Entire house was checked in presence of the family members and they were handed over valuables and the house," the investigating officer, SHO Manjit Singh said. |

Doctor’s statement condemned
Bassi Pathana, April 9 In a press release issued to the mediapersons, the doctors, staff, Mohinder Singla, president IMA, Ajay Malhotra, general secretary Blood Donor’s Society, Kamal Gupta, president small scale industry, citizen club, rotary club and other organisations have said the post of SMO was lying vacant but Dr Kang took over as SMO and involved the prominent citizens and NGOs for the development of the hospital by constituting their committee. Health minister Luxmi Kanta Chawla during a surprise visit to the hospital appreciated the SMO. Dr Kang told The Tribune that Dr Neelu remained absent from the hospital most of the time since she joined. He alleged that she caused unnecessary delay in dealing with rape case and gave incomplete receipts of income tax statements. She levelled false allegation on him to get a transfer from this place. When contacted Ashok Singla, deputy commissioner, he said the letter submitted by the doctors and staff would also be a part of the enquiry being conducted by the ADC in this regard. |

Chandigarh, April 9 In other results, St Soldier International School beat Shishu Niketan in a thrilling tie-breaker, Motiram Arya Model School lost to Model-37. Vivek High, Saupins School, Ryan International School, Jawahar Navodya Vidyalya, all recorded victories in the pre-quarter final stage. The star performers during the pre-quarterfinal stage were Piyush, Ryan International School, and Jony Chand Singh, St. Stephen’s, with both of them scoring a hattrick. In the quarterfinal stage, Ajit Karam Singh International Public School got the better of St Soldier International School in a tie-breaker beating them four goals to three. Model-37 scrapped past Vivek High School with two goals to one. New Public School blanked Ryan International School seven goals to nil. St Stephens also thundered into the semifinal stage with six goals to nil, thrashing Jawahar Navodya Vidyalya. The semifinal between Model-37 and Ajit Karam Singh International Public School, Model-37 breezed through to the final with two goals to nil. In the other semifinal, St Stephens defeated the opponents’ two goals to one. The final was another slow starter but the intensity started picking up with every minute. Finally, St Stephens got the better of their opposition and lifted the trophy with two goals to one. But, the trophy wasn’t all these young men were fighting for. There was the important selection of three players to Kolkota under English giants Arsenal’s coaches and the lucky three were Taranjit Kumar, Rahul Anand (St Stephens) and Arshpreet Singh (New Public School). A total of 30 players are to be picked up from throughout the country. These boys will then train under Arsenal coaches at Kolkota for a week, before their number is trimmed down to 15. MCA to take on Stadium team in final
Mohali, April 9 MCA drubbed the host team Desh Prem Azad Cricket Academy by five wicket in the semifinal match. DPAC team put on 190 for 3 in the allotted 30 overs and the target was overhauled by MCA, scoring 192 for 5 in the stipulated overs. Sarthak of MCA played a key role in the win with his unbeaten 63 runs knock. He was well supported by Tejas (34) and Romy (28), who provided the team a solid start with their 71-run stand for the first wicket. Tennis Coaching Centre opens
Chandigarh, April 9 The project of setting up the center started in 2004 but due to official rigmarole, it got delayed and could only start this week. “Thank God, finally the project saw light. Earlier, we had no options except going to CLTA or Lake Club courts for our child’s training. But now with the opening of the center, all of us are greatly relieved,” said a budding tennis player’s parents. At the state-run center, which mainly caters to players from southern parts of the city, over 25 budding players have enrolled themselves to hone their skills under coach Baldev Singh. “We have set up four clay courts where players will get training in two sessions - morning and evening. While the two-and-a- half-hour long morning session starts at 6.30 am, the three-hour evening session commences at 4 pm,” said director of the Chandigarh sports department I.S. Sandhu. “As the initial response is very encouraging, very soon, we will provide more facilities at the center to produce top class players”, said Sandhu. |

One held for fraudulent use of debit card
Chandigarh, April 9 Neelam had lost her debit card on June 22, 2007, while she was shopping in Sector 22. The next day she left for Mumbai, having no idea that her card was missing. She gave a written complaint to the SSP the day she came back to the city and an FIR was registered in this regard on July 13, 2007. Hardeep found the debit card while he was roaming in Sector 22. It being a debit card, Hardeep made purchases of Rs 33,599 within two days. The police traced the accused from the IEMI number. Hardeep had sold L7i, he purchased using the debit card among other things, to his friend Kamal for Rs 4,500, which the police traced. After inquiring from Kamal, police nabbed Hardeep and recovered two L7i and a Nokia 1600 from him. Sanjeev Singh, sub-inspector, said the police traced the accused from the mobile call details. While talking to The Tribune, Hardeep said, “I had found the card from Sector 22 on June 22. The next I day I went to Neelam’s house but her servant told me that she was out for a week. I got greedy and thought to make purchases using the card”. |

The deceased was wearing blue trousers, a green shirt and sports shoes. The body was sent to the Sector 16 Government Multi-Speciality Hospital. The police has initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC in this regard. |

200 cases of liquor seized
Panchkula, April 9 The contraband consisting of 100 cases of McDowell, and 50 each of White Hall and Imperial Blue was worth around Rs 2 lakh. With this, the total seizure of liquor done by the local police and Panchkula Exise and Taxation department since March has reached more than Rs 30 lakh, said the deputy excise and taxaion commissioner J.S. Chahal. According to the police they intercepted a truck coming from Chandigarh side at tank chowk near Chandimandir in the morning. However, it was found the truck was carrying cases of liquor. The driver and helper of the truck, who were identified as Kulwant and Sham Sunder, both residents of Panipat, were detained by the police. |

Kingfisher to launch services on six new sectors
Chandigarh, April 9 Effective April 14, 2008, Kingfisher Airlines would offer a daily direct flight from Chandigarh to Mumbai and from Chandigarh to New Delhi, which would mark the launch of operations for Kingfisher Airlines in Chandigarh. The flights on these new routes would be operated using brand new Airbus A320 family aircraft featuring personalised in-flight entertainment on every seat, gourmet cuisine and world-class service. An official release said that Kingfisher Airlines would also introduce services on five other routes. For the first time, it would offer a daily same-day return flight between New Delhi and Goa. It would also add one more daily direct flight between New Delhi and Hyderabad, taking the total number of daily flights on that route to three flights a day. Kingfisher Airlines would also launch a direct daily flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad and between Chennai and Coimbatore. |
