Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has said President Pervez Musharraf should be tried for treason cases for his November 3 action, Kargil operation and the Lal Masjid carnage. Talking to the media at Lahore Airport before leaving for London, Sharif said the interview of Lt Gen Gulzar Kayani, a former corps commander of Rawapindi and Musharraf's buddy, aired on Geo News last night has corroborated his stand that he was not informed about Kargil Operation.

“Whatever Musharraf had said and written in his book on Kargil is nothing but a pack of lies,” Sharif observed. He said it is not the demand of the entire nation that Musharraf must not be given a safe exit but tried on charges of treason and ordering large-scale massacres.

Gen. Gulzar Kayani, in his interview, said Musharraf be made an example for all times to come as a deterrent against future autocrats. He is the most-hated person in the country who had subverted the constitution twice, killed innocent boys and girls in Lal Masjid where phosphorus bombs, a type of chemical weapon, were mercilessly used.

He said eye-witness accounts said the US drone actually hit the Lal Masjid and the Pakistani helicopters came much later to provide a cover-up for the US attack.

Gen. Kayani, a close relative of present army chief, Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, said several corps commanders had opposed Musharraf's slavish submission to US demands after 9/11, advised him against the referendum and did not support his November 3 imposition of emergency and dismissal of 60 judges. But he arrogantly ignored the advice and acted like an absolute dictator.
