B’desh hands over Bodo ultras
Guwahati, July 12 This has raised hopes for early deportation of general secretary of the banned ULFA Anup Chetia alias Golap Baruah, who has completed his jail term in the neighbouring country since his arrest in Dhaka in 1997. Official sources informed that Ismail Hussain, DSP from Bangladesh, along with officials from Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) handed over the convicts to a team of officials from the BSF, Meghalaya police and the Assam police. All deported persons had served various terms in Bangladesh jails. As they were from Assam, the convicts were later handed over to the Assam police. The three NDFB militants were identified as M. Khorang, M. Daphung and Sanjoy Das. The civilian was Parameswar Chouhan, former smuggler and truck driver. The ultras were arrested few years ago by the Bangladesh authorities after they had illegally entered the neighbouring country to undergo training in the militant group’s base across the border. The BDR had earlier given a list of 12 Indians, including general secretary of the ULFA Anup Chetia, to the BSF informing that they would soon be handed over to India. However, Chetia was not deported today. The BSF hopes that it a matter of time before Bangladesh deports Chetia who has been lodged in Bangladesh jail on charges of illegal entry into the country with two forged Bangladeshi passports, possessing an unauthorised satellite phone and illegal currencies of various countries, including the US, UK, Thailand and Belgium. — TNS |
