Surgery : Fortis Hospital, Mohali, has claimed to have a successful hip replacement surgery on 104-year-old woman. The surgery was conducted by Dr Harsimran Singh. Chanan Devi from Dhaliwal fell at home two weeks ago and fractured her hip bone. Chanan was operated on December 29, the surgery took just 37 minutes and only 100 ml of blood loss occurred. Chanan was allowed to stand with support 24 hours after the surgery, said Dr

Shop catches fire : In a fire incident which took place on Friday late night, the articles worth lakh of rupees gutted in the handloom shop of Gandhi Chowk, Kalka. Shiv Kumar Rana, the owner of the shop said at around 11pm, Darshan, a local rehriwala informed that the shop had caught fire. The fire brigade from HMT and Parwanoo managed to control the fire. The local police administration also rushed to the spot. The reason behind the incident is assumed a short-circuit. The police is investigating the matter.

Pedestrian dies in mishap : A pedestrian was reportedly killed when he was run over by a vehicle (HR 05V 8899) at Khanpur village, near here, today. The deceased has been identified as Jai Prakash. He was walking on the roadside when the vehicle hit him and fled. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the Civil Hospital at Indri.

: Two-day session of JKNPP candidates and delegates started on Saturday in Jammu. According to the press note issued here, 79 candidates who contested the elections participated. Iinaugurating the session, chairman of the JKNPP Prof Bhim Singh congratulated the party candidates for their performance in the elections. Bid on SHO’s life : A police officer survived a bid on his life when militants hurled a hand grenade towards his Gypsy at Hyderpora on the Srinagar Airport road on Saturday night, official sources said. This was the first militant attack in the city in 2009. They said the militants hurled a hand grenade towards a Station House Officer (SHO) of a police station at Hyderpora bypass around 6.30 pm. However, it missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside without causing any damage. The sound of the blast was heard in the entire area.
