Lakkar bridge that had been hanging fire for the past few years is finally going to be completed as the railway ministry has directed its officials to start working on the project after submitting fresh estimates to the Ludhiana MC.

16-yr-old sets herself afire,
dies

Ludhiana, January 16
Examination pressure made a 16-year-girl set herself afire at her house in Sanjay Gandhi Colony here today. The deceased has been identified as Khushboo, a student of Class X at Dyal Public School. She is reported to have been depressed due to the fear of scoring poor marks in the ongoing examinations.

Youth hangs himself
Ludhiana, January 16
A youth was found hanging from a ceiling hook at Dashmesh Nagar here today. The victim, identified as Kamaljeet Singh (21), was living alone in a rented room for the past few years.

City Concerns
The recent strike of petroleum employees and truckers inconvenienced the public, which had a difficult time managing the kitchen, besides transportation. The prices of essential commodities, including vegetables and household items, shot up.

A seminar on the topic ‘Darwinism- an unconceivable hypothesis’ was conducted at Punjab Agricultural University, here today. On the basis of his comprehensive studies, Dr B S Ghai, a former professor and head of the department of genetics of the university, said the Darwin's theory of evolution was probably incorrect. 

Fearing action, schools declare records missing

Apprehending action by the police and the education department, organisers and owners of a few private- affiliated schools, who had issued fake experience certificates to candidates getting jobs in government schools recently, have started declaring their records as missing or in some cases even stolen by a few persons.

Congress to contest 13 seats: Dullo

Veggie prices come down
Ludhiana, January 16
Prices of fruit and vegetables stabilised today four days after the All-India Motor Transport Congress’ strike was called off. Potato that was available for Rs 6 per kg last week is now available for Rs 4 per kg, while tomato came down to Rs 10 per kg from Rs 15 last week.

Two residents of Reone Khurd have been booked for raping a girl of Raipura Rajputan village. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh and his uncle Nath Singh.

Attempt to rape 6-yr-old, man arrested
Ludhiana, January 16
A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to rape a six-year-old girl at Gyaspura. This incident took place at a room in Gyaspura on Thursday.The girl was alone in her room while her mother had gone out of the quarters to get potable water.
