150 buses lined up for Sukhbir’s show
Ludhiana, January 20
District transport officials remained on the beck and call of political bosses of the state throughout the day today. The DTO office remained locked as the officials were busy in “confiscating” vehicles for the mega event of Sukhbir Badal’s elevation as Deputy Chief Minister at Amritsar tomorrow holding up the public works for the second consecutive day today.

Bodies of industrialist, children taken out from Sirhind canal

The bodies of an industrialist and his children, who had been missing for nine days, were spotted by a passersby in the Bathinda branch of Sirhind Canal at Khatra village near here today.

Brar told to file reply by Feb 5

Dr Dulcha Singh Brar, accused in the sexual harassment case at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been asked to reply to the charge-sheet issued by the authorities till February 5. For this, he has been provided with all the necessary documents and the evidence by the varsity.

Disgruntled, rural doctors eye jobs outside Punjab

Disgruntled over the “unfulfilled promises” of the state government, more than 50 per cent rural doctors working on contract under zila parishads in the state have taken their experience certificates to seek jobs in other states and overseas.

Smart cards for the poor after biometric survey

The municipal corporation will hire a company to conduct biometric survey and issue smart cards to the poor who would be allotted flats that are being constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

‘Ghajini’ cue for city cops

SSP RK Jaiswal, taking cue from the Bollywood’s recent blockbuster “Ghajini”, has instructed all SHOs to put a reminder alert on their mobile phones or computers to keep a tab on their routine work. Unlike “Ghajini’s” hero Amir Khan, the local police is not suffering from the short-term memory loss, but is certainly struggling hard to cope with the increasing work load, growing crime rate and repeated visits of politicians, due to which complainants suffer and lodges complaints with their seniors.

Drug peddler gets 15-yr jail
Ludhiana, January 20
Drug peddler Amarjit Singh alias Ambi of Hoshiarpur has been convicted on the charges of possessing 100 bags of poppy husk by a local court. Holding him guilty, Additional Sessions Judge M S Virdi ordered him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 15 years. The convict was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh apart from undergoing imprisonment.
