With most private buses heading to Amritsar to ferry Akali workers for Sukhbir Badal's oath-taking ceremony, hundreds of commuters were inconvenienced as only a few buses were plying, especially on link roads.

Rally in mini-sectt for pay commission
Ludhiana, January 21
Members of the Punjab State Ministerial Service Union held a rally in mini secretariat here today for the Punjab pay commission to submit its report. The union's district president Vijay Margera said, "It has been two years and the 5th Pay Commission has failed to submit its report till date. The Centre employees are enjoying regular benefits while we have been put up on hold by just waiting for the recommendations of the commission."

Man run over by vehicle
Jagraon, January 21
A man was run over by a Tata 207 pick-up vehicle yesterday near Aligarh village. Deceased Harjit (35) of Mahavir Colony, Jagraon, was crossing the national highway with his cousin Raj Kumar when the vehicle (PB 29 G 9129) coming from Ludhiana side hit him killing him on the spot.

Girls of Jarkhar village, who were so far being confined to the four walls of their houses, will be seen in the action at the 23rd Jharkhar rural games. The village which was strictly against the girls participating in any sport event has made their own basketball team.

The 23rd edition of the sports festival at Jarkhar village, about 15 km from here, began today. Though the festival started yesterday, it was formally inaugurated today by Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, SSP, Ludhiana Rural. The team of Jalaldiwal village won the kabaddi championship by defeating the team of Accharwal village. The two-day rural sports festival concluded yesterday evening at Chak Kalan village near here.
