Dehradun student gang-raped

Barely 17 days after the gang rape of a 24-year-old MBA student outside a mall in Noida, a similar incident, this time the victim a minor, has rocked Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun, the city so far considered safe for women.

Daughter of a government employee and a student of class X, the victim was allegedly raped by five motorcycle-borne youth yesterday evening in the forest area of the Nalapani.

Acting swiftly, the police nabbed four of the accused while raids were being conducted to arrest the fifth one.

According to the police, the accused spotted the victim along with a boy of the same school in the forest area. After overpowering her friend, they allegedly took turns to rape the victim.

SSP Kumar Vishwajit said they got lead in the incident from the wallet of one of the accused, Himanshu (22), which was recovered from the spot. The questioning of Himanshu led to other arrests-Nitayi Mohan Aggarwal (22), Ashish Sharma (20) and Deepak Saklani (22). Vicky Rawat (20) is absconding after the incident.

A case was registered under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC at Raipur police station on the complaint of victim’s father.
